Sounds to me like he has a personal ax to grind. Also sounds like he has been way too involved in the internals. I've held a lot of these modern pistols. I own Glocks. None of them feel like a 1911. None of them has the balance of a 1911. None that I have shot, so far, has the trigger of a 1911.

The poly guns are very reliable (check), they are much less expensive (check), many have an abundance of aftermarket parts and upgrades (check), but in my hands it's just a lead slinger. If I keep a 6" or 8" group with my G23 it's an average day. My Kimber will keep a group the size of my hand, and doesn't insist on moving toward the 9 o'clock zone.

So, for a modern service weapon, a pistol that holds lots of rounds that allows you to through lead rapidly in the direction of the bad guys, yeah I suppose they should move along.

"I saw the light, I saw the light. No more darkness, no more night" (Hank Williams)

I have read a few of these over the years and they all have the same base theme. "Look at me, I am so much smarter than you because I have dumped that old 1911".
To that I say, congratulations. You have finally realized there are other gun makers and designs throughout the shooting world. Duh, where have you been the rest of your life?
You are just now realizing other brands and designs can do the same thing the 1911 can do. Good for you, very observant. Now, come back in 20 years and see which one is still here, mostly unchanged and which one is just a piece in a very long chain of developmental weaponry.
I guess it could be said that the 1911 is just a link too. But it's the master link. Refurbished and improved, but never replaced. That link that all others are built from. Go where they may, everyone comes back to John's baby.
The part these writers seem to miss is that hundreds of thousands of people own and use other brands and styles. But they keep there master copy.

Don't be. Just very skeptical of those who make money from their opinions.

Wow, what a read. Good job. I admire your objectivity, with allowances for noted personal preferences.
