Fancy restaurant Friday night at the casino, shooting in the desert on Saturday, brunch in Gardnerville NV Sunday, smoking baby back ribs Monday with all my kids (last son returning from Long Beach for the summer). Going to be a real nice weekend.
Taking a nepher or two Turkey hunting Saturday and Sunday. Relaxing Monday with the Mrs. Will likely shoot some of our pistols with the nephews after hunting at least one of the days. Hopefully will get some fishing in too!
County all star baseball game at 10:00 Saturday morning, oldest grandson is playing. 2:00 that afternoon graduation ceremony for the same kid. Sunday is the graduation party at 2:00. Monday I hope the wife and I can relax.
First off, I will remember what that day is about. I will honor the memory of the members of my family and all others that gave their lives so that we could live free!!
Then............because I am retired, I'm going to take the whole week before Memorial Day OFF!!!
Saturday, I'm going to go shooting at the Charlie Elliot WMA Range and Sunday, I'm gonna see Gomer sing
"Back Home Again In Indiana" (BTW, The Commandant of the Marine Corp gave Pvt. Gomer Pyle an honorary promotion to the rank of Corporal, Jim Nabors accepted the honor!!)
and watch the Indy 500.
And last of all, I'm going to watch the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte!!!
Memorial day weekend usually means a big family 3 - 4 day get together at my house because my birthday is the 25th. The smoker comes out and a brisket or pork shoulder and racks of ribs get done to perfection but not this year. My son just recently had serious shoulder surgery and it would be very difficult for him and his family to make the 300+ mile trip at this time so I told everyone to stay home. Fortunately I have the Indy 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and the Coca Cola 600 to entertain me.
Chuck - I'm sorry about your son and hope his recovery is a speedy one. Let 'em know that next year it's "game on" again. Memorial day, to me, is a time to reflect and be grateful for all the people you love and all the freedom you are blessed with. All you need to do is look around . . . Syria, China, Ukraine, N. Korea, Egypt, West Africa, and the list goes on. With all that's going on in this country it's still the best on earth. I'm going to take my baby girl to the mountains and shoot pistols until our arms ache. She will be leaving for college in the fall and for the first time in my life I will be an "empty nester." I still have time to make some more memories with her though.
Leaving Friday for DC and Rolling Thunder on Sunday. Late home Sunday night, burgers on Monday. Finally, a toast to Memorial Day.
