Most American schools still begin the day with the Pledge of Allegiance. I'm not sure how many students know the meaning of the words, but they know how to say them. This video should be shown to them at least once a year. Maybe make it the first thing that appears on their smart phones before they can use any other app!!

I remember Red Skelton from my childhood. He was a genius entertainer and didn't need to use foul language to be funny!! In addition, he was patriotic and religious, ending each show with, "Good night and my God bless!" We sure could use some entertainers like Mr. Skelton now!!!!

Since I stirred a little interest in the pledge of allegiance I thought people might be interested in how it's changed over the years.

The Official versions
(changes in bold italics)

1892
"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

1892 to 1922
"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

1923
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States and to the republic for which it stands; one Nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

1924 to 1954
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one Nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all."

1954 to present
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
