Wink Just Got Back From Germany

Spent 2 weeks with my son and his family in Germany. Got to do the Grandpa thing!! Spoiled three grand kids rotten!!

Did the tourist thing (not you Chico!!) for a few days. Rented a car and drove to Munich and toured the Dachau Concentration Camp, just north of Munich. Then back down the Autobahn to Fussen to tour the Palace of King Ludwig II of Bavaria--the Schloss Neuschwanstein! Schloss Neuschwanstein is the most photographed building in Germany! Also in Fussen is the Schloss Hohenschwangau, palace of Ludwig's father, Maximillian II!

Schloss Neuschwanstein (3).JPG <---Schloss Neuschwanstein which inspired Disney's Cinderella's Castle!

Returning to Vilseck the next day, I got to fulfill a bucket list item-------Driving Down The Autobahn Like A Wildman!! Yep, I took that Enterprise Rental Car (a turbo charged Ford Fiesta) down Autobahn A-9 at 190 kilometers per hour. Translated to real world figures, that is 118 mile per hour!!! Not the fastest I have ever driven, but this was the fastest I've ever driven LEGALLY!! I was passed by several BMW's and Audi's like I was standing still!!! When they flash those lights, get the hell out of their way!!! I even passed a Polizei car! They never looked twice. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!

All in all had a hell of a good time. However, I did drag home the German Grunge, a virus of some sort and have been sick since Thursday. All I can say is that Germany made me snotty, or snottier!!! Drugs are working to clear this Deutcher Disorder up as quick as possible. The Huns can't keep me down!!

Welcome home Keith, it sounds like you had a great time with your son and his family. How did you feel running around unarmed for 2 weeks?

Glad you had a good time. You should have been there in the 50's. No german Police would even think about stopping a civilian car with US Army registration tages; BUT, for US Forces, in a civilian car, the speed limit was 80 km (about 50 mph). Military Police in white Jeeps (white mice) patrolled the Autobahn (or what there was) and would stop and give you a speeding ticket.

If you go back, give me a PM. I'll give you some places to go to tht most tourists (or residents) don't get to go. I've spent over half my life there.

Heding back this summer, if the terrorists don't own the country.

I did not like it at all!!! Today, in Berlin, showed why!! There is too much of this crap going on in Germany!! Earlier this year, my son and his kids left a restaurant in Munich just under an hour before radical Muslim terrorists shot it up. His family had plans on visiting the Christmas Market in Berlin today!!

Too close, too often!! My son is not allowed to have a weapon outside of the training area. He is not allowed to wear his uniform off the base either. Too much chance of becoming a target!

BTW. this sign is across the street from my son's back yard!! My morning alarm was artillery and heavy machine gun fire---at close range!!! The house shook!!
