You Can't Bomb An Ideology

Quote from a WWII veteran overhearing someone say that "You can't bomb an ideology."

"The hell you can't, because we did it. These Muslims are no different than the [Imperial] Japanese.

The Japs had their suicide bombers too. And we stopped them. What it takes is the resolve and will to use a level of brutality and violence that your generations can't stomach.
And until you can, this shit won't stop. It took us on the beaches with bullets, clearing out caves with flame throwers, and men like LeMay burning down their cities, killing people by the tens of thousands. And then it took 2 atom bombs on top of it. Plus we had to bomb the shit out of German cities to get them to quit fighting.

But, if that was what it took to win, we were willing to do it. Until you are willing to do the same…well I hope you enjoy this shit, because it ain't going to stop!"

Back then, we had leadership, resolve, resources and determination.

Today we're afraid to hurt people's feelings…. and worry about which bathroom to pee in!

He also goes on to say, "Unless you are willing to be as unreasonable and as brutal as your enemy, do not engage him in any conflict - because he will win."

And that, more than anything else is what I hope all our enemies are thinking now that Trump is going to be the next president

Very doubtful. Trump is all talk. He is now ginning up talk about restarting a nuclear arms race. Just where is he going to drop a nuke and stop terrorism.
1) Iraq? Did that all ready. Fail!
2) Mecca? That will really be kicking the hornets next. DOA!
3) Everywhere... cause that is where the terrorist are.... everywhere. :(

Another example: All the internet warriors got a woody when he said he was going to do far worse then torture/waterboarding when he became the president. That came off the table almost from day 1.

And comparing the Japanese (a people of a Country) to Muslims (a religion, a rather large one that spans the globe) is lame. Vets often don't know crap, but are given the benefit of the doubt, i.e. a wisdom that is completely honorary.

First off Montana, Muslim is not a religion in my book it is more a cult than anything else. For me religions are based on Christianity to want someone dead if they are not Muslim is not Christian like. Why don't you hold off on judging Trump before he has even taking office. Your buddy Obama did more to weaken these United State of America than any president has ever done in my lifetime. He weakened us economically and weakened our Military. Basically he left Trump a pile of shit to sort out. To top it off he just thumbed his nose to Israel! The economy has already started to improve just because somebody other than a liberal democrat is going to be leading our country!

Au contraire, mon frère. The Bible is rife with instances of your Lord ordering his abominable hordes to go forth murdering and raping His enemies. If you're thinking of joining the cult, dude, first read the syllabus.

Are Christians who selectively embrace the good parts of their religion while rejecting the bad, any different from Muslims who do the same?

You Damn Right!!

I'm with you , Chuck. In order to win a war, your tactics must be at least as brutal, vicious and underhanded as your enemy's, if not more so!! Generals LeMay and Spatz fire bombing of Japan and Germany, plus the 2 atomic bombs dropped on Japan certainly took the starch out of both of them. They gave in to the only choice left to them..... Unconditional Surrender!! To quote my father-in-law, a TBM torpedo bomber Naval Aviator from World War 2, "I never flew of a piece of Japanese territory that I didn't bomb, shoot up or piss on!!!" Nothing escaped!!

To send the proper message to the Muslims, the U.S. should first instruct the Saudis (as the presumed most powerful Muslim State) that they have 2 weeks to reign in the radical elements of the Islamic religion. Failing that, the U.S. Air Force will drop a nuke on the Kaaba in Mecca.

Their big block of black sacred rock glowing green in the dark for the next 10,000 years should send them a message that they won't soon forget!! Or the ultimate threat: re-running the South Park episodes with the Prophet Mohammad in the bear costume over and over; ad nauseam!!

After that, nuke a mosque a day until they unconditionally surrender!!

Maybe. But Christians have not engaged in holy wars in modern day. The extremists over seas have not grasped that nor will they ever. I've been saying turn them into a crystal amusement park for years. They don't give a rats arse about us nor does their religion care enough to do anything major about it. Not to mention we should stay the eff out of it.

Chuck,

I agree with you about senseless name calling, but as a Moderator you might consider how much Forum disruption a chronic troll is worth putting up with.

This isn't just about someone disagreeing with others, it's about a troll. Postings in these topics is alway the same thing-- designed to inflame.... again and again and again.

IMO, allowing a troll to regularly disrupt otherwise intelligent and generally congenial discussion is worthy of reexamining.

Montana resident,
No Muhammad Ali was the greatest Heavy weight boxer of all time he was not a murdering terrorist. He did beat a few people up though. Until we the United States of America can come up with a more thorough or complete way of knowing who is coming into our country All immigration should be suspended. As far as who was or is behind Trump check my posts I have been behind Trump 100 percent from day one. Long before the first primary. and I am not slowing down. He may not turn out to be the greatest president we have ever had but he is what this country needs right now!!! If you can not see that then go get your vision checked. Obama did nothing for my country other than attempt to destroy it. As far as the U.S. is concerned I do not view this as a religious war it is just good old fashioned war. Now that Obama has made us look so puny it is going to be much harder to get the upper hand. We will though you can count on it. If we don't we will die trying! The United States of America (Love it or Leave it) Oh yeah that reminds me weren't all the liberals going to find some other country to live in what is happening on that front Montana is your house up for sale or what!

The problem I see with the Trump supporters, or any supporter of a president, is naivety. To think that 'a' president is responsible for all the problems, or that 'a' president can solve all the problem is naïve. I sometime listen to Rush Limbaugh and shake my head at his blaming 'everything' on a particular party/president. It is selective memory and interpretation. I like to point out the contradictions and fallaciousness of it all.

IMO, the world marches forward and the problems that direct it are the born with and educated prejudices that people are raised with. The solution is in your control, and it is for yourself. I made my solution, I moved to Montana, one of that last free area were you can do as you please without suffering the consequences of other peoples/politicians actions or inactions.

If you find joy and happiness and see a brighter and happier future under Trump, then why battle with me. Just be happy. :)

SWCA,

You are quite correct.

The comparatives used by MR are a disgrace of the highest order, demonstrating thinking similar to those suffering from brainwashing common in radical Islamic schooling of children.

Apologists for radical Islam like Obama, Merkel and their misguided supporters, desperately fantasize the issue isn't about radical Islam. Each new terrorist attack they hope to hear that the perpetrator is named something like Joseph Smith, screaming in the name of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the slaughter of innocents. Anything to divert attention away from the truth and failed policies of unleashing death and despair of radical Islam upon the citizenry.

Apologists for radical Islam like Obama and his misguided supporters will do and say anything to convince Americans to invite death into their communities. Obama even went so far as to try to embarrass those with concerns about allowing refugees into our country who can't be properly vetted. He characterized refugees as just young women with children who are of no threat to anyone. Apparently, Tashfeen Malik didn't get Obama's memo. As Obama was lecturing with his condescending smirk... 29 year-old Teshfeen Malik, mother of a 6-month-old daughter, went on a mass murder radical Islamist killing spreee in San Bernadino, CA, killing 14 and injuring 20 others.

The false comparisons, lies and misdirection perpetrated by Obama and misguided supporters, sometimes by Net Ninja trolls on discussion forums, are a total and complete disgrace.

This will be my Last Post!

This will be my last post on this subject. I hope you did not think I was leaving the forum.

I did not know that Montana had seceded from the U.S. I thought California might be the first to do that. I do know the president is not responsible for jobs or the economy, world peace etc. Our government was formed by the people for the people! That is why we have senators and congressmen and cabinet members. This way there is a system of checks and balances in place so we do not end up with a dictator. Executive privilege is just that a privilege it is not a edict or mandate. Our current President thought he could pencil whip all his policies on us. I believe you will see a significant change in the military and our national security also the economy and our health care system. I would also believe we will have tax cuts and deregualtion on many fronts to take the shackles off of business and industry in the U.S. The United States of America has more freedoms than any country in the world as far as I know. I also know we have to be willing to stand and fight if necessary to keep these freedoms. Obama and the democratic party has or had a lot of Americans convinced just sitting on there ass and everything will be handed to them. We were on a bullet train for socialism and the next stop would have been communism. If want to read a good book read The Animal Farm by George Orwell.

Bottom line you are either part of the solution or you are part of the problem if you feel you can just put your feet up on your porch and watch the world go by then your opinions do not carry much weight because you are not carrying your own weight. America will survive without you but always will be stronger with full participation from everyone! Merry Christmas to all!:)

Oh, you might not be able to bomb an ideology, but you can bomb the ideologists.

For example, there are Nazi groups in this country, but the Third Reich got flattened.

Notice how fast the Nazi scientists signed up with the Russians and the Americans to tell them everything the winners wanted to know.

...and it got us to the moon...

You can't tell a guy like Putin "you go ahead and increase your nuclear arsenal and we'll keep what we have or maybe even get rid of some"!! You need to say that "if you want to have a go at escalation, we can do that again like in the 60's and 70's but remember how that turned out!" !! Trump needs to lay low for a couple years and get our military back on track and then let China and Russia deal with out attitude! We need to make up for the pussified Obama years IMO! AND, the Ruskies and the Chi-Coms know we are the only nation on the face of the earth who have used the bomb to end the madness of war! I'd much rather be vaporized than to be held down and have my head slowly cut off while I'm alive.

JMO.....sorry if it might upset a few of you!

...I think that it's clear many voters turned out and supported Trump for these and other similar reasons. Let's face it, most "normal" folks over 35 view the social and political climate as it has recently existed in a negative way and want to see a change. Some like out resident salami chef "HAVE" gone off the grid? To each his own.
...One thing is for sure, it will take more than bombing to handle the issue of "radical Islam". It's obvious that the "radical" ideas are spreading and growing. You can't bomb the internet or keep these guys from knocking up their wives.

You're right that effectively dealing with radical Islam requires a multi-faceted approach.

That said, dead radical Islamists terrorists don't procreate.

As America becomes energy independent and a net exporter, fretting about the future well-being of the ME as it relates to America's needs becomes less relevant. It simply becomes a threat to deal with, not something that requires preservation for our energy needs.

I'm getting deja vu. I was out spoken in my pointing out that going into Iraq was a big BIG mistake and was attacked for my viewpoint. The arc of my views was on Bush's deadline for Saddam Hussein to come clean about his "WMDs". Delivered a day earlier then demanded a bundle of documents more the 1200 pages and mostly in Arabic were delivered. Bush denounced them almost immediately. Cheat and Retreat was his condemnation of the delivered documents. Fast forward 13 years, and few think Iraq was right, justified or worth it. In fact many/most think it is in large part responsible for the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a troll making Salami.

Bomb, bomb them all. I'll just watch it on TV, and when the blowback begins I will try to remind you of your mistaken zeal to attempt to bomb and kill your way to peace. Go T'Rump!!!

That's about what it boils down to Markie. In my opinion almost anything that can be done proactively will have to stem from covert intelligence. On the bright side, it does look like the Trump administration will be deferring to the judgement of actual experts on the matter rather than egomaniacal political "yes men". The truth is this isn't new, it does goes back to the crusades. Modern conveniences have allowed it to spread and even nurtured it. Before anyone starts typing, I will admit that I understand "OUR" presence in middle eastern affairs over the last century has conveniently put our lily white faces in the crosshairs BUT the fact is there's essentially NEVER been peace in the region. In most all civilized societies many traditional interpretations of Islam are basically illegal? What do you do with that???
