South Snow Freakout 2017

As you might tell from my screen name, I grew up in Maine and know what its like to get a couple of feet of snow. Here in metro Atlanta, we have a storm warning in effect for 1"-4" and the place has gone a little crazy. Granted, we don't have the capacity to deal with this except on the major highways and roads so it makes travel very treacherous for most of us. Most of the grocery stores are getting beat on for supplies and everything is getting cancelled. No matter how it turns out, I am set with a cabinet of nice bourbons, a pot of chicken chili on the stove, a few guns that will be cleaned, and some good old NFL playoff football. I am kind of looking forward to it.

I remember back in 1992 I was one of about 50 Marines stationed at Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Huntsville AL. There was a freak winter storm that dropped some sleet/freezing rain and about 1" of snow before it was all said and done.

The city basically freaked out. News was pleading with drivers to stay home as the city did not have the equipment to deal with the roads.

The base commander even shut down all vehicular traffic on base. Soldiers/Marines were getting written up if they were caught driving on base.

Having grown up in Chicago, I found it very entertaining!

Same thing here in Houston. We get a few "flakes" and the whole city shuts down !! When we are forcasted to get to 32 Deg, the bobble heads on the news make it sound like the sky is falling

We've got some lamb chili ready for tomorrow's game. I gave our Texans tickets to a client and will stay home where the adult beverages and great food is in abundance and enjoy the games. Might also go out to one of the local gun shows in the morning before the games...

I laugh about heat warnings in some parts of the country...

Oh no it's gonna be 90! And here it's 115 in the shade.

And really I don't care to hear about humidity making it worse. I did basic AIT and Jump at Benning in the summer. I found it refreshing. When it's 120 in the sun and the surface temp is 140 it's just hot.

I spent almost 20 years in NE Ohio before retiring to Middle Tennessee and the 2" of snow we got today wouldn't even be news worthy. It's been a mess in Metro Nashville and surrounding area with multiple auto crashes and way too many hours of weather warnings on the local TV stations. I stayed in all day to avoid the roads filled with drivers with NO clue how to maneuver in the snow and ice.

Up to your ankles is a dusting up to your knees is a snowfall anything above that is milk and bread time.

Time for the our nightly walk, it's 2 degrees going negative tonight, Chuck Out!
