Outsiders

Anyone watching the new series Outsiders? Well actually it's not new it debuted last year; season one is over and season two just started. Season one, if you want to get caught, up is available on DVD.

There is a family of Irish Hill Billy's who live on a mountaintop in Kentucky. They've been living there for the last 200 years and pretty much stayed to themselves except when they have to go to the small town in the valley and scrounge up some supplies usually by stealing as they do not believe in money. Now that mountain is loaded with coal which is a large energy company claims belongs to them. The people in the town need jobs the company wants to make billions of dollars and the squatters are not going to leave their mountain without a fight. Tensions are rising it's getting hot, there's soon to be a huge confrontation.

So it's make believe since there's no such thing as a "Irish Hillbilly"...

Not in my family tree at least...

The Appalachians were settled by the Scotch-Irish & Germans. Many believe that the language and dialect is closer to original immigrant origins than any other area of the country. Ergo, "Southern" or "Hillbilly" speech is truer than many will admit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachia

European migration into Appalachia began in the 18th century. As lands in eastern Pennsylvania and the Tidewater region of Virginia and the Carolinas filled up, immigrants began pushing further and further westward into the Appalachian Mountains. A relatively large proportion of the early backcountry immigrants were Ulster Scots—later known as "Scotch-Irish"— who were seeking cheaper land and freedom from Quaker leaders, many of whom considered the Scotch-Irish "savages." Others included Germans from the Palatinate region and English settlers from the Anglo-Scottish border country.
