I have an ediquette question.

I have people coming over to watch the game this evening. They are scheduled to be here 1 hour before game time. They are bringing the food and I am supplying the liquid refreshment. Is it prudent for the host to sample the liquid refreshment before the guests arrive to insure it's up to the high standards my bar is known for or do I just leave the bottles sealed, roll the dice and hope for the best?

Absolutely, you should sample the wares. You would not want to proffer swill upon your honored guests.

You can bet that they taste tested the food that they're bringing over.

Hell yeah...I wouldn't expect anything less of you Chuck...Just remember to sip and not guzzle because the last thing that guests want to deal with is a host that is drunk and has drank most of the booze...{don't ask me how I know this}

Based on the opinions of such notable connoisseurs as Insta-Gator, Cucamonga Kid and Marshall I'm going to crack the seals. I have just over an hour, 3 different bourbons and a bottle of vodka, it's a dirty thankless job but somebody has to do it.

Clearly none of my friends are invited. If they had been, you'd have had them at the word "Free."

Rumor has it--and I stress the word rumor--that the Barnum and Bailey Circus had over-ordered elephant kibble, and one of the biker bar owners bought several bags.

Supposedly the kibble had a salty flavor and the bikers loved it.

...it was free...

It would be impolite to offer your guests anything substandard, or that was a little "off." You are duty bound to check it.

The elephants have retired and the circus closes this year.

I guess the clowns will join their brethren in DC.
