Weather Alert Radio Recommendation

After the tornado's hit here several years ago I bought what I thought was a good model (Midland). Well it will still make the alert noise but won't tell you what the alert is for. Time for a new one.

What are my membership friends using? Details, model number, best place to buy.

I had one, worked as intended, my wife hated it and made me get rid of it. We now keep eye out during storms and watch weather radar on phones, etc. we always have the sirens.

I've been looking for quite awhile and have settled on the Eton FRX5 (maybe the -bt version as shortwave might be interesting). It gets good reviews.

If you have a smartphone such as an iphone. There a ton of great apps. I have a couple that will set off a ruckus sounder and scare the crap out of you.

Thanks John, that idea finally hit me while researching different radio brands. I do indeed have a Android smartphone and found some free and inexpensive highly rated downloads. One was $9.99 another was $11.99 still a lot less than a regular radio.

While traveling from Cal. back to Ohio while in Texas my I-phone went off automatically issuing severe weather and tornado warnings.

One of the ones I use is called Storm Shield. See if they have that one for your phone. You can set it to warn you by setting a square area around your neighborhood and/or have it track your location as you move. That mode will draw your battery down so best use with car adapter.
