Paintball, anybody ever play?

Anybody here ever play paintball? Back in the 80's and 90's when I wasn't hunting I was heavily into paintball. I used to play both locally and travel out of state to play competitively. I was going through some pictures on an old hard drive and came across some of my collection. There are pump and semi/full auto markers for different types of play. If you can spot them the 4 double barrel markers are custom made scratch built markers that are equal to mid priced Kimbers in cost. My full collection runs about 60 markers, and like my guns there isn't a plastic one in the bunch.

I also played back in the 90's. I had two of the very first Tipman A-5 in aluminum. They were a blast. Still have them in a box somewhere in the basement.

Yup, used to play a lot for a couple years. I only had a few guns, the coolest was a low pressure Autococker that I built. It's a dinosaur by today's standards, but it was the shizz for a short time before the electronic guns dominated the scene.

We have a handful of fields around here. The population what it is, they were all pretty crowded. And paintball seemed to be a sport dominated by children. What ended up happening is that it was always spray and pray. I tried to nudge my crew into creating games that would require more thinking and skill, but I was the oddball. A hundred kids, all shooting as fast as they could. It wasn't for me.

That's why you'll see a lot of pump guns in the picture.

Not This Kid!!

No, I never did paintball. Back in the early 70's, I worked in a grocery store in South Florida, while I went to college. One Friday, I was headed to the rear of the store to go unload the grocery trailer that had just been dropped off. While I was heading to the back, a guy from the alarm company was working on the armed robbery circuit. He shorted it out!! When I opened the the back door of the store, there were two Ft Lauderdale policemen in the front of the store, a Broward County sheriff's deputy on each side and two Florida Highway Patrolmen at the back. The troopers met me with 12 gauge shotguns pointed at my head! I can verify for you that the barrel of a 12 gauge is about 4 inches in diameter from the business end!!! I told the troopers very quickly, "I work here!" To which they responded, "We'll see....!"

Ever since then I have not wanted anything that even vaguely resembled a gun to be pointed at me. I raised my kids shooting from the age of five. But they were NEVER allowed to do paintball. I did not want them pointing "guns" at anyone or having anyone point "guns" at them. In fact, when my son graduated from boot camp, the Army put on a demonstration for the parents, family and friends of the new soldiers. Two Bradley Fighting Vehicles entered the parade ground from opposing ends. They "attacked" and neutralized a simulated machine gun nest with the Bradley's 25mm chain guns . They then launched smoke grenades, dropped the back doors and deployed two squads of soldiers who charged toward the review stands with weapons facing forward. While this charge went on, the graduates stood in platoon ranks at the rear of the parade grounds. My son whispered to the soldier next to him, "My dad is not going to like this!!" He was right!!

So, no, paintball is not for this fat old Lineman!!! And NEVER will be!!

Never did paintball, always kind of wanted to but just never did.
Even wanted to buy a paintball gun but didn't know which one to get. Used to be several gaming places to play around here, don't know if they are still open.
