We don't have any local outdoor ranges so all my shooting is done indoors and all they allow are paper targets.

Home made steel silhouette. He needs a respray if you really want to see where you're hitting but he always gives you audible feedback.
I just take him and a few of his friends a couple of miles up into the hills

I like the steel plates at he range I shoot at. Camp Perry just opened a public range with electronic targets for handguns and rifles. I really need to check that out.

Cool Fave Targets!!

I never shoot anything glass. You can't clean it up when you are done!!! I believe in leaving the shooting site cleaner than when I got there. I taught this to my children as well.

Now down to the meat and potatoes of this thread----My Favorite Targets: I am a disciple of R. Lee Ermey and my favorite target/enemy is THE WATERMELON!!! It explodes on impact, has enough mass to take several hits (maybe) and is biodegradable, so no clean up is necessary!!! The worst case scenario is you have just planted some new targets for the future!!!

Some of my favorite secondary targets are: grapefruits, spray paint cans, plastic milk and soda bottles filled with water, wood blocks and abandoned cars!! My kids learned, at 5 years old, what a gun will do when they witnessed a match up of a grapefruit and a Smith and Wesson Model 19 .357 Magnum. That display made a lasting impression on them. Their first targets were half full spray paint cans, shot with their child's model Anschutz .22 LR bolt action rifle. They were hooked on shooting after that!!! At 8 years old, my son went through an entire 500 round brick of .22 LR ammo fired at a 1966 Plymouth Valiant abandoned next to the Florida Everglades. As I told him, "You ain't lived until you have shot up a car!!!"

He is now 35 years old and hasn't outgrown that stunt yet!! Here is a video of my son firing a Javelin Anti-Tank Missile at an abandoned and scrapped U.S. Army vehicle called a HUSKY. Per my son, the Javelin goes down range to the tune of $75,000 a pop!!! This one was fired in training with the Estonian Army, while he was deployed to Estonia with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. My taxes paid for that. I hope to hell he had a good time!!!

I would never shoot at a light bulb, glass bottle, or anything else that would make a mess and degrade the environment.
