Vintage Bass Boat

My boat guy is doing an excellent job, almost fishing ready. Had to put some cash into it but nowhere close to cost of new boat.

Nice looking boat !

Yea, the price of bass boats these days is absolutely incredible. I see guys around the lake where I have a place pulling $70,000 bass boats with 1985 model chevrolet trucks that are falling apart parked in front of delapadated mobile homes...... guess that shows where their priorities are

Oops, thought it was about ready? Guy texted said he is waiting on a couple small parts but could bring it back and install them here.
Nope, he found a small crack in the fuel pump (yes the whole thing is made of plastic) it works but is dangerous (of course). He gave me the part number, WOW my first few searches pumps are from $300 to $450 was not expecting that.

Woo Hoo, then last night about 12:30 on Ebay I snagged a New Pump for $189.00, haha there was 10 people watching it.

My advise: don't let things sit around not being used!

I've been buying my parts for last 6 or so years from Boats.net.

Prices are very reasonable compared to what you pay at boat dealer parts dept. they are OEM parts too.

I learned a valuable lesson (and expensive) last year with my Yamaha F70. Took it out for first run after winter and only got about 500 yds from my dock and it started stuttering, just as my 50hp had done a few yrs ago. It acted like a fuel filter so I changed them all out (there are two under the cowling and one spin on). That didn't work so I changed the Low Pressure Fuel pump (the F70 is Fuel Injected). Still did not resolve the issue. There was one more screen in a VST tank where the HP Fuel pump is located so I figured the ethanol fuel had built up the white powder you get from old fuel. This was a orettt major process to get to as I had to remove air intake. While I had the injectors out I haft them cleaned. Changed the VST Screen. HP Fuel pump tested good so put everything back together. And sonuvab!tch it was still sputtering and low power. Figured it was time to take to marine mechanic which meant my boat would be in their captivity for at least a month (huge backlog during spring). Had bought new spark plugs when making one of my parts orders and figured it out them in while I was getting it all back together to bring to shop. Started up again to check for leaks and Holy Crap it ran like a top. IT WAS a $7.00 spark plug that was the issue !!

Oh well, good lesson none the less, and I learned a lot about the engine in the process. I now have the Yamaha computer diagnostics setup so I can let the onboard computer direct me to the problem next time

Never like the idea of bass boats...I like something around me to keep me from falling in the drink.

Wink Loved The Bass Boat!!

I owned a bass boat for seven years while I was living in South Florida. During that period, there was only one weekend that I did not use that boat. On the weekend in question, I was in a hospital after blowing out my appendix!!

I fished nearly every body of water in the state of Florida of any consequence in pro bass tournaments: the Everglades (numerous locations), Lake Okeechobee (numerous locations), the Kissimmee River, Lake Trafford, Lake Tohopekaliga ("Toho"), numerous canals in the Federal Water Drainage System and of course the ever popular Alligator Alley, the waterways along I-75/Florida State Road 84 between Naples and Ft. Lauderdale. I even won a few!!

I sold the boat in 1986 and have been almost completely burned out on fishing since then. I actually got a fishing license this year. First one since 1990!! I may actually check out Lake Oconee one of these days. It's just right down the road from me.

New boat? Nah, don't think so. Been there, done that and the t-shirt is way too small now!!!
