Attempted Mugging...Made My Son Mad!

I just got off the phone with my son who is currently living in Manhattan. He told his Mom and me that shortly after mid-night and while walking home from a party, a guy approached him with a knife and ordered him to give over his phone and wallet. That pissed him off and he proceeded to disarm the guy, break his nose and then watched the guy run away. Witnesses (remember NYC never sleeps...and there were a lot of witnesses) called the police who then actually caught the mugger and hauled him off to jail...charges are being filed today.

My son said he returned to the party where they had already heard about the incident. Cheers ensued and a retired New York Giants player took my son under his wing for a few rounds and a few encouraging words to calm him down. He even showed him the best way to get the mugger's blood off his fists before escorting him to his apartment.

An exciting night overall and my son was not hurt (nor did he lose his wallet or phone)...that's the most important thing. Just another true story from the Big City!

and they call that "fun in the big city". You can keep NYC.

Glad your son is OK, and sounds like that mugger got properly embarrassed.

Chalk up another one for the good guys. I'm glad to hear that your son is OK and the mugger got what he deserved.

A good ending to a bad story. Glad your son is okay and he made it unscathed.

If that exact same thing had happened around these parts, it's almost a certainty the miscreant would have been taken to the ER with a gunshot wound, or maybe the morgue as almost 10% of the entire county here carries concealed.

They can keep NYC, never been there, never want to.

I love a story with a happy ending. Does your kid have weapons training, or is he just a natural?

I'm in NYC right now and can't wait to get out. The place is an overpriced dump.

I was going to ask the same question! Was wondering if he had defensive training or has military background. Glad that your son is ok, and came out on the better end of the deal!

He has had training and has carry permit for TN which is not honored in NYC. I guarantee had that mugging attempt occurred here in TN, the mugger would not have been so "lucky"!

My son made his way to Manhattan's Central Police station this morning and completed the police report and made sure he didn't forget to file charges. I understand the perp required medical attention!
