Home defense...17 9mm or 10 .45?

So I recently got my first 9mm and love it. It has me wondering...what is a better home defense handgun? I’ve always been a proponent of the biggest caliber (Ive always had my USP in my night stand) however I can see the benefit of more ammo. So, which would you rather have in a SHTF situation, bigger bullets or more bullets? 17 rounds of 9mm or 10 rounds of .45?

Thoughts?

I wouldn't fret about caliber.

Firearm reliability and shooter competence with the specific gun is key.

All depends on the situation. I have learned through experience that the more firepowert that you have and those with the greatest amount of ammo usually prevail.

It's more about ammunition selection and shot placement than caliber. One hit with a 9MM is better than 8 misses with a 45. You get the idea.

I think Iím leaning toward the more ammo side. Iíve always been a hard core .45 guy. Now my PX4 has me reconsidering that. I like the idea of having 17 rounds.

Whichever I grab from the my safe first, we leave ours open at night. We have dogs that would bark but, I don't want to be messing with pressing buttons and our bedroom is to small to have nightstands. Now that honey has bought another 9mm (Colt) I think we are locked and loaded to handle multiple intruders if necessary.

Actually 18 rounds. More than twice what a 1911 will hold. Today more and more home invasions are committed by multiple perps. I just feel all warm and fuzzy knowing I have 18 rounds of Critical Defense ammo in my Smith & Wesson M and P.
