Happy National Beer Day

Many of us like/love our suds and since today is National Beer Day I was wondering where was the first time that you tried a beer, how old were you and what brand was it ??

If you still indulge, what are some of your favorite brands ??

Domestic or Craft ??

Are you kidding, do you think anyone over the age of 18 can remember all that?

WAG: I was probably around 10 years old and it was what ever my grandfather had in his growler that he would get filled every night at the corner tavern. He was the one that over the years introduced me to my first beer, cigarette and bourbon.

Chuck, I actually have been trying different draft craft beers at our local pubs over the last few months and to my surprise I like some of them. There are tons of micro breweries here in the Lou and once the weather gets warmer we plan on going to quite a few of them to try more....

LMAO----maybe not, but I bet you could remember the name of the first girl that you kissed in the backseat of a car while watching a movie at the drive-in......

My first taste wasn't a Budweiser as you might have thought, but it was a rock gut brand named 9-0-5. I was 12 yrs old {1975} and my best friends father bought it by the case for $5 and one day we decided to have one while his father was at work. I remember tasting it and the gag reflex that followed. We both had two cans that day and that was the first day that I got drunk and the first day that I told God that I would never drink again while I held on to the toilet hurling my guts out.

Many years later when we were 16-17 the makers of the 9-0-5 announced that they were no longer going to make that beer any longer and my friends father took his pick up to the local store and loaded up the bed with at least 100 cases of the stuff and stored them down in the basement. His father went to bed each night at 8 pm and we had a great idea and that was to sell six packs out of the basement window to our friends for $3 each. That lasted a few months or so until we got caught by his mother and we had to pony up half of what we made to her so she wouldn't tell Gene's father.

If Clydesdale's urine makes Budweiser as Chuck claims, then this 905 beer had to come from donkeys because it was that bad.

Being a "jock" in high school I didn't drink. So my first brew was probably at 18 or 19. I'm pretty sure it was a Stroh's "The Fired Brewed Beer" All the guys drank Stroh's and girls drank Miller ponies. There were no "lite" beers in those days.

Today I don't drink much beer, a six-pack lasts me a month. I usually just grab some Buds or Red Stripe. RS has the taste of the old school Stroh's. I HATE most of the new craft, IP's and other over "hopped" beers. I don't do bitter. I think beer should be refreshing and thirst quenching ... I don't want a beer that makes me reach for something else to get the taste out of my mouth.

Now lets talk about bourbon ...
