Highlander - "There can be only one"

The cult classic movie "Highlander" will be shown on TV tonight on the cable El Ray Network, if anyone else get it.

This is one of my all time favorite movies, at the time it was like nothing else out there. One of only handful of movies I returned to the theater to see more than once. (2001, Jaws, The Godfather I ). The movie was a huge world wide success.

Somethings you might not know about "Highlander".

It's star Christopher Lambert, while born in America was raised in Geneva, Switzerland and Paris, France and could barely speak English at the time the movie was made and had to be coached through almost every line.

The movie has an fantastic sound track by the band Queen. But almost none of music was ever recorded for an album. Songs like "Who Wants to Live Forever?" are movie classics and truly powerful parts of the film.

A wonderful, modern fairytale with an intensity that makes recent movies like Lord of the Rings seem silly by comparison. But then Highlander wasn't aimed at the middle school crowd.

If you don't know the movie ... get your popcorn ready and treat yourself.

I'll have to see if I get that channel, love that movie. I used to watch the series religiously.

Paul, you're spot-on there, buddy. At the time, that movie "was it" so to speak, and many guys were hoping they somehow had some Scottish ancestry in their blood. Really good stuff with great blade action.

I'm proud to say I actually do have Highlander blood, being half Scott. I made sure all my buddies back then knew it too. Only way they'd believe me though was if I put on a kilt. Didn't own one, so that was the end of that (thankfully).

'Course, I'm a gunny sort, so I'd probably be useless with that 20 lb. broad sword in my hands anyway! Imagine using one of those beasts in combat for an extended period? Yikes!

I haven't seen the movie in quite some time, but always watched the TV show. There was some great music throughout the movie, and yes, 1/2 Scottish.
