Into the sunset...

As you know, I want to retire. I am keeping my license and serial number with Blue Ridge, there might be something I want.

But the last six Barges are already sold, along with two of the last Blue Butts. I did keep one for myself--just a reminder of "The Barge Charges." I have none to sell.

Oh, I have the locals, but most of those are common knives and a bagful of kitchenware. I did one of the kitchen knives for a gym member, and I'll bet I do not get the job. Let's just say it would have been cheaper and less of a headache if I just bought her new knives!

I need this, guys. The jokes about therapy are more than just jokes. I need to get my head fixed for the sake of my wife. I was on the phone with my dentist's bookkeeper, and both my wife and I need work. For some reason, I find oral exams scary.

It's not even 5:00PM here, and my wife shopped while I polished. She's already asleep. We spent one day together this week.

Look's like Ken might close, and Rob Babcock has left the building. It was great while it lasted.--Chico

I did that once.
It was interesting.
Then I quit.
Better now.

And do what, beat your head against the wall all day? You say polishing helps you calm down and keeps you sane and now you want to give that up?

Yes what Chuck said plus we all know you AIN'T going to stop doing what you do with knives, you thrive on a paper bag full of dull kitchen knives.

You guys are probably right, for two reasons.

One, yesterday was a real screamer. I had a long talk with my dentist's bookkeeper about our compounding debts and adding an additional cleaning.

And yes, polishing relaxes me--but when work piles up like this week--it's more of a curse. Now, the guys on KT are very respectful of the time it takes to polish a knife. I even had to call a member and ask if I could do his Barges last since a personal knife--and a new adjustment--would be better if I did them all last. No word yet, at least he didn't complain.

More to the point, I'm going to work slower, and stop even if I'm in the middle of a knife. Perhaps "extended vacation" is better, but this "up at 2:00AM" must end, and my diet has to improve.

Yes, I have a few sold Barges to finish, but tomorrow is Sabbath, and I'm going to set the stones aside. Thanks, guys.

Why would they not be? If they wanted it fast, they could take it to the guy at the swap meet who sharpens knifes on a bench grinder for three dollars. Patience is required by the polisher and the knife user alike. Disrespecting the togishi is to disrespect the craft and disrespects the spirit of the knife.

Word on the street is that you know something about bikes. Remember that painter guy? His work was spectacular. You could bring him your tank, and when it was finished, it was a work of art and he'd let you know to come and pick it up. It wouldn't be tomorrow, or next week, or probably not even next month. But if you wanted him to do your tank, you waited however long it took... or you could just come and get it and take it home right now.

Same thing.

Yeah, I know. The call to my dentist's bookkeeper was made during a "high anxiety" time. Sometimes I wake up calm, and sometimes jumpy.

I had some Barges that were half done, and that bothers me. But three of them are going out this morning.
