Question Dad Always Said....

As I grew up there was one statement that my father used repeatedly on my brother and me:

If you're gonna be stupid, you gotta be tough!!

I heard it a lot when I was a teenager. As I got older and somewhat wiser, I heard it much less often. After about 25, I never heard it again! I guess it finally sunk in!!!! Wish I could hear him say it again!!! I miss "The Old Man"!!!! (Purely respectful, as in a military superior officer. Daddy was an Air Force Brigadier General!!) usa2.gifusa2.gif

What was your dad's best line???

I would ask for a couple of bucks to take my girl friend to the movies. But my dad had a ridiculous work ethic. He used to say, "Money is laying around everywhere, bend your back, and pick it up..."

When ever there was a family decision to be made he would say "This is a democratic dictatorship, everybody gets a vote but mine is the only one that counts."

Considering you were alone at the time, wouldn't you have been talking to yourself? I'm just saying...

Mad Dad would just look at me and shake his head. Never said a word.
That use to kill me. I would rather he say something but the look of disgust was enough for me to get the message. I too miss my Dad he was a gentleman and there are damn few left.

At 6'5" 260 my father didn't have to say much and usually just gave us "the look".

His favorite line was...

"Which part of { shut up/ sit down/ go to bed/ clean your room/ eat your dinner/ take a bath} don't you understand" ??

The first 3 and last 3 words were always the same and he just added the others to convey his message to us..

"Don't worry about what the other guy says about you. He doesn't put food on your table." He fought in the Italian army under Rommels, Afrika Corp. Was captured in the battle of El Alameign by Montgomery's army. Was sent to a POW camp in Fort Wayne, Michigan. He always said that the greatest day in his life is when the Germans and Italians surrendered to the British. It was fascinating growing up to see a different perspective on WWII and how much he loved this country and always respected what the Americans did for the POW's. He would be sick today to see what this great nation has become. By the way he became a citizen, the old fashioned way. I saw his exam, I don't think most citizens would be able to pass it today.
