Write your apologies now.

I have not always been the kindest of God's creatures, and I have left a lot of damage in life. There has been one girl/woman I met in grade school--and who I fought with and harassed right out of high school.

I recently found out her best friend Kathy, died several years ago in her early sixties, and she should have received an apology, as well.

As you know, I am a member of Classmates, and I wrote to the guys in MFHS 1968 to get addresses and updates. One member knew "Maryanne" and her married name, and I just finished a hand-written letter of remorse.

Here's the upshot, we've all been angry, short and terse with people in our lives. Most of them did not deserve it. If you're tough enough to throw a drunken townie across a pool table you're also brave enough to confront the people you have wronged.

I just laid down the burden I was carrying. I do not know if Maryanne will write back, sue me, have me shot or even respond. That's not the issue, the apology was the crux. The error was mine. How she handles it, even in silence, still means I had to offer it.

Clear your conscience.

Good post. I know I wish I could have some "do overs". Looking in the rear view mirror, people were (are) more important than the stupid issues that caused a problem in the first place.

Good advice Chico. One of these days my next breath will be my last.

Thanks, guys. I wish I would have known where Maryanne disappeared to so many years ago. By dumb luck, one of our classmates did know where she had gone.

While I'm glad I found her by any means, this apology should have been delivered decades ago.
