Range safety

At the range where I am an RSO we require everyone to wear eye and hearing protection whenever they're near or on the firing line. Occasionally someone argues with us and says,"I don't wear glasses when I hunt, why here?"

This happened to a guy's AR at the range yesterday. He was shooting a factory built rifle (not self built) and Lake City NATO ammo, not reloads. Luckily, neither he nor anyone else was hurt. This answers the question, why wear shooting glasses.

Good point.

Any chance he had an ammo box with lot number?

Who was the rifle manufacture?

At the range where I am an RSO, personal protection is not an option. It is a necessity! I once had to argue with a profoundly deaf shooter about hearing protection - he conceded because he wanted to shoot. So far I haven't had to argue with a blind shooter!

I think you might be on to something with the barrel obstruction. But look at the bolt. It's exactly where it's supposed to be! So did all that pressure come through the firing pin hole? I'd think that the gas tube would burst before the receiver blew. Crazy stuff.
