If that happened here he would be licked to death first by my watch dog then he might have been shot by the homeowner! Nobody comes in here unannounced.

I'll never understand you millennials. If someone wants to come over to MY house, they need only to knock on the door or ring the doorbell.

This nonsense about text messaging "I'm outside your house" is strange. Don't expect me to do it, unless it's oh-dark thirty and I don't want to wake up your family.

If you're a friend, acquaintance, neighbor, passer-by unable to overcome your curiosity about the strange goings-on, or just a little kid wanting to sell me cookies, just knock on the door. Your experience will probably be pleasant. You might even get dinner or a drink out of it.

I feel as if there must be some sort of conflation between the knock/ring and the "unannounced" in that quote, he maybe could have put a few more words in there to make a clearer point.
On the other hand, I think one or the other of us is conflating millennial behavior with being trigger happy. Millennials are most likely not to have any gun at all, spend all day protesting the police and then call them in a panic when a stranger is on their porch that night.

That is why I live in the country behind a locked gate with 3 big dogs and appropriate firepower.

I now have a different story from the neighbor lady's husband. He said both of his doors were open - not closed at all. He did knock and while he was talking to them he stepped up inside the door so he could talk to them easier. He did not just walk in unannounced. I think my neighbor lady is just an alarmist. (I really should have known that.)

Sounds like a recipe for unintended consequences by the deputy.
