10:30 at night and

someone knocks on the door. What do you do? I got up answered it cautiously with my gun half out and hidden by the door frame. I looked out and here was a sheriff's deputy. I immediately re-holstered my gun and his eyes were as big as saucers. He told me there was an incident on the next street over and asked if everyone was OK. I told him we were just fine. I talked to my neighbor today and he said the officer just opened his door and walked in. Because of my paranoia I fortunately had the storm door and the house door locked like I always do. Had they not been locked he would have walked in on us as well. The neighbor has a police scanner and heard there was a drive-by shooting at the house directly behind my other neighbor's house. I loaded up a couple more pistols and the shotgun then slept with one eye open. sure glad that deputy walked away from my house in one piece.

If there ends up being any more shootings like that I'll consider moving.

Well, that doesn't speak well to the training of your local deputies.

I rarely lock my doors but if anyone tried walking into my house uninvited they'd be greeted by my 2 dogs.

I don't know where you live but that does not sound like smart police procedure to me!

Our doors are almost always locked, exception your a friend, housekeeper, maybe repair/service person I have called and they have called me, then wood door will be open and glass storm door unlocked..

Ten at night, two in the morning, broad daylight high noon, you knock or ring my doorbell unannounced, your experience will probably not be pleasant. Your greeter will be a grumpy old bastard holding a 45 1911 and there's a good chance he will be in his underwear. You decide, make good choices in life!!

Yup, that's the way it would unfold here too. It would also be quite noisy with TWO loudly howling and barking hound dogs added to the mix.

Well punk.....do you feel lucky?

The Coondog would bark and wake us up, but if someone is knocking on the door then I'd wake up anyway. If it was 10:30 pm I might be up watching TV.

You are absolutely right there and I don't think he realized how close he came to it. People should learn to not p!$$ off grumpy old men.

Sometimes, it's almost as if people somehow learned the opposite lesson from Grand Torino of anything that should logically follow.

On the other hand, we also live in a time when people think 1984, Brave New World and Animal Farm are instruction manuals not cautionary tales, so.

...if anyone knocks or rings the doorbell anytime of the day; we always check our cameras and then greet them with a smile and a 1911...
