Mississippi Derringer 38 special

Yesterday was a wheel and deal day for me while I was bored at home.. I sold a Savage 20/22 shotgun that was close to 40 years old and bought this which is 50 years old..

It's called a Mississippi Derringer and it's a 38 caliber...I have always wanted one for no good reason and now I have one....I bought it from an older gentlemen who bought it new back in the mid sixties and told me that he shot it a few times..

There's not much info on it online and was wondering if any of the members have had a derringer before and share their stories on it..

Don't know much about it. But it sure is a sweet little thing. A derringer is something I have always wanted to add to my collection. Just think they're cool little guns. Good find. Enjoy it.

It does still look new Zoomy...No marks on it at all...The barrel looks as shiny on the inside as if it was never shot, but I know it was...

That's pretty cool. I have always wanted a derringer. I'll bet that thing has some sharp recoil!

I also would think that, but the man brought his son along for the sale and he told me it wasn't that bad....

Then again I was looking up about 5 inches at his son who had to be 6'8" 350lbs with hands the size of a laundry basket...I could probably hit him with a board and it wouldn't feel that bad either...

I will test it out tomorrow on our range visit..

Nice!

My Dad bought a Derringer back in 1972. It was 22 magnum. I think it may have been High Standard or possibly a S&W. It had a snappy recoil as I recall. We had a liquor store and my dad wanted some defensive protection in the store. The police wanted my dad to get a .38 because they felt the 22 mag penetrated to much and could possibly go into a second person. I do remember it was pretty cool looking. We took it out to get used to shooting it I was 16 and it was the first hand gun I had ever shot. I had a hard time hitting anything even at close range. I am looking for one for myself just have not found one for my price.

Good score Marshall! I always wanted one but have never really looked for one.

What company made yours? Or is "Mississippi Derringer" the company that made it?

Regular .38 should not be a problem but .38+p could be a little snappy.

I have been searching for a couple of hours and can't find the mfg...Rohm Mfg made this exact derringer, but not with the "Mississippi" on it...

Apparently there were dozens of German companies that made derringers and flooded the U.S. market with them back in the mid sixties...

ASKJEFF.com will keep searching.....
