Silver Sneakers Program

I don't know how many of you guys that are on Medicare are aware of this program. The Healthways SilverSneakers Fitness program is an insurance benefit included in more than 65 Medicare health plans. Through SilverSneakers, health plans and group retirement plans provide a gym membership to their insured, usually at no additional cost.

Your SilverSneakers membership allows you access to more than 13,000 participating locations nationwide, and includes all the basic amenities plus group exercise classes geared specifically towards the active older adult.

My fitness center recently started participating in this program and it took me 2 minutes on SilverSneakers.com to verify that I was eligible. I printed out a membership card, took it to my gym and registered it with them. What this program does is pay for your membership dues to encourage you to workout and take better care of yourself and again this is at no cost to you. They pay for it, you don't pay and wait to get reimbursed. In checking their maps I found in addition to the gym I attend about 30 others within and easy 10-20 minute driving distance.

I've been going for a few years now when I'm able. Have a facility ten minutes away. Great benefit.

Not enrolled for Medicare but will be soon. My wife is going to have her check that web site. Thanks Chuck!
