One of the joys of living in a small, rural county ... not much emergency radio traffic. Gotta love boring

Ditto on that Gator....

I once had a police/fire scanner and many times I would show up at all of the fires in a 5 mile area since I'm a firebug at heart..

A battalion chief came up to me after seeing me at all of the fires and asked me why I'm there as much as the firefighters...

My guess was he thought I was setting the fires and coming to watch my handy work....

I listen in. During the season it can get real interesting, but since the tourist and seasonal people are gone, it's pretty quiet.

I was a volunteer firefighter for about 10 years. Served from grunt to second in charge of our station. Had a lot of fun, seen a lot of good and bad stuff. We all had scanners, radios and stuff. Use to have them running 24/7. Back in the day you could also have your police scanners pick up cell phone calls. Now you want to talk about hearing some crazy shit. Lol

Yep. I'm into it too. Being a ham you sort of gravitate to it. Comes in REAL handy for knowing what is happening around you and where not to be when things go wrong. I maintain a no. of scanners both in the house and both vehicles so I can keep track of what's happening both at the local as well as the state level.

Here's a link to the BEST resource for all your monitoring needs complete with databases of systems nationwide. Let me know if I can answer any questions.
