So very true in this day and time, you never know when it might happen.

Fired within minutes...the person who fired him should be fired for being a douche.

I understood that he wasn't employed by GM, he worked for a company under contract with GM so how could GM fire him?

Most companies here in my area have this same zero tolerance rule. You can be immediately dismissed.

What pleases me here is that "the worm is turning." Notice he got his job back after public pressure.

It just how many of our job sites work here in the Lou...There is a general contractor that runs the job, but many sub contractors that work on the site as well..In the end the general has the last say on everything..

Glad the guy got his job back and my feeling is I can always find another job..

I still don't get it, if I hire your company to do work for me I can't fire one of your employees. I might say that I don't want that person working on my property but I have no legal right to fire him from your company.

I agree...The story was probably poorly written and does come across as GM firing him when in reality they don't work for them...

These stories contradict the OP's post and GM has denied ever firing him at all..Many others say he was fired...A little CYA going on...??

I may have to re-read it...I got the impression his supervisor fired him, citing GMs policy.

My biggest issue wasn't the firing (even with a policy, that blows though). It was that firing was the first thought and not "geesh, good on you for saving a life"
