The youth of today

I feel sorry for the US in 20 years. I am glad I am long in the tooth and will not be around to see how bad it will become. Sadly, it has already started a downfall.

Beginning yesterday, I have tried to hire a teenager to help me for a couple days on a project. Thus far, I asked seven boys (15-17 yrs of age) if they would like to make $12 per hour and not even get their hands dirty. Spring Break is starting Monday so they would have time. Three turned me down flat and said they did not want to do anything but lay around. One told me he would work but it would be at $20 per hour. Another is willing to do it but does not want to work but two hrs a day. The others were too busy doing whatever it is that they do when out of school.

I am glad my kids were raised to work and value making money.

I saw the same thing several years ago. You can't compete with the generous allowances for doing nothing, and the wide screen TVs and shoot'em up video games.

Darn, $12 an hour is pretty good for a kid, heck my high school daughter only makes $10 an hour at her part time job at Old Navy. Hope you can find somebody to help you with your project. Times sure have changed.

Some of these kids are in for a rude awakening when they have to get full time jobs. Offering $12 an hour is more then fair. Where I live $12 an hour is a good rate for anyone working. The range officers make $10 an hour. Wait until they have to pay for Obama's affordable health care on 30 hours a week.

That $12 per hour is cash. No taxes withheld Not reported to the IRS. In reality, being paid cash would likely be $16 if it were reported.

Youth have became lazy because their parents do not teach them work ethics and let them do as they want growing up.

It's also sad that many parents today with teen age boys do not train their kids how to work, regardless of purpose or basic life skills. Of course this may sound overly harsh for visiting 'couch taters' reading this thread.

On one of the morning news shows earlier this week they had some doctors with a bunch of letters after their names discussing young people today. According to them it's taking young people until their late 20's to reach the same level of maturity that children of the 40's and 50's hit in their mid teens.

That sounds about right. I know some that it will take them into their 30's before they figure it out. Daughter in law for one.
It's time for a good EMP to take out all the micro chips in their cell phones and video games and then see how long they survive.

Sad but not surprising chuck. I read the other day that something like 40% of Americans are still supporting their "children" up into their late 30s financially. The way the article was written I did not read it as helping if they are fresh out of school or down on their luck. I read it as supporting! If this is an accurate statistic this could explain why so many don't want to work. They don't have to. mommy and daddy don't let them fall on their butts and learn the hard ways like most of us had to do or work and save for the extras in life they want.
And don't even get me started on not keeping score in little league baseball anymore and everyone that tries out gets to be on the team and everyone gets a participation trophy....
