Patriot Guard Rider Killed

Here in the Lou we have an organization called the Patriot Guard Riders which escort veterans to their final resting place on their motorcycles..

A couple of days ago one of them was struck and killed while escorting a funeral into Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery...

Today was his turn to have many of his friends and fellow PGR take him to his final resting place....One heck of a turnout...

Sad...this kind of thing seems to be happening more often and "distracted" drivers apparently are frequently at fault. There is a Patriot Guard Rider unit in my area and sometimes hear about "close calls" while performing escort duties.

Just read both articles. Sounds like the driver should have been charged. She advanced after being told to halt.

I am truly sorry for this senseless loss of life. I too ride a motorcycle but I am not a member of the PGR. I respect them and believe the work they do is wonderful for the surviving family.
However as a former LEO and current HOG chapter director, I question them blocking the intersection . They are not the police and do command the respect an officer would from the driving public. Also a Police car with lights would attract more attention.
It is not my intent to disrespect anyone I'm simply stating facts as I see them.
God Bless his soul and that of his friend that must also be grieving more than I can imagine.

All the runs I've been on, local PD always assisted. Still, common sense should prevail and she evidently wasn't paying attention.
How people do not see bikes of that magnitude always confused me.
Most people in 4+ wheels could care less about bikers! Very sad!

I retired from my MC last year. had ridden for many years and was a club member for nearly ten of those. Sadly, I have also attended a number of funerals for exactly the same thing. Folks in 4 wheels don't look, don't care. Lots of clubs here in South Florida riding the interstate and on the street all the time. Just too damn dangerous down here for me to be ridin any more. Too many folks on the cell phones, talking, texting etc. A sad loss of life...

It very sad when a person doing something good has crap like this happen because some dumb ass doesn't care enough to pay attention. Great show of respect from the others for him.
