Home Defense

You MUST be able to defend yourself!
I have friends that live shortly outside of town, only four miles from Boulder City, just off the US-95 Hwy. We are not talking out in the sticks here.

Two nights ago, there were at least two people firing shots on their properties, perhaps toward the dogs or the residences, or what we do not know. But my friends could see the muzzle flashes.

Now, one is armed at all times, the other knows where she keeps her shotgun handy at least.

Here is the best part. This is what happens when you call 911 for active hostile shooters on your property at night.

911 Metro dispatcher says, "oh, you're closer to Boulder City, I'll transfer you there."
Boulder City says "Doesn't matter how close you are, that's county jurisdiction" and transfers them back to Metro. (How did the first dispatcher not know this?)
Metro says you are on your own for a while, all of our officers for that part of the county are in Laughlin. (Laughlin is one hour away, Las Vegas is ten minutes)

Police arrive 1 hour and 22 minutes later. Now, you can literally be to their doors within five minutes of the Railroad Pass casino; it's not much further down the road than the gun club. Again, this is not in the middle of nowhere.

We aren't talking about asking a police officer to come take a statement. We are talking about a 911 call because thieves (this is a storage yard) are on the property actively firing gunshots and the residents are holed up!

Granted, they are usually going to be quicker in town, but you can't count on that either.

Remember folks, police have no legal duty to protect you, though they will try if they can. Your safety is YOUR responsibility, and if you ask a policeman he should tell you the same thing, or he is a liar.

One of the residents learned a valuable lesson. After she called the police, she UNLOADED her shotgun! She was thinking she didn't want a loaded gun in the house when police arrived, except that wasn't for another hour and a half. So, we corrected her thinking on that issue!

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away (or as in this case, an hour + away). Good example of why you should be able to protect yourself!

Know the law in your State. Carry daily. Practice frequently. Always be aware of your situation.

The only person that can be responsible for your safety is you. Prepare, practice and implement.

Having a gun is important, but having a plan is even more important. Running around at random is foolish. Know where your guns are, make sure they are ready to go. Leran your sight lines. Have a safe room. Make sure your family knows the plan. Make sure someone is in charge. Have a proper mindset.

Insta-Gator hit the nail on the head, know the law in your state.

Do you live in a state with "Stand Your Ground Laws" or with "Castle Doctrine laws" in place? Or do you live in a state where you're obligated to beat it out the front door if someone is breaking in your back door? Shoot a bad guy in the wrong state and you could find yourself up to your butt in law suits, in jail or both.

Along with several other layers of protection, I keep my EDC Kimber and this very near, every day, every night.

Thanks fellers...

Love my girl she is the smartest animal I have ever known. Hears everything!
Mossberg 500 series, came with adj stock and pistol grip I needed to whittle it down for the narrow hallway.
The skull is a wine cork, she sits in the corner barrel up, cork keeps dust out.
