It can happen anywhere. Stay alert

Received this email form our HOA Manager. We live in a very nice, quiet subdivision, one way in & one way out. No real crime to speak of, expect mischievous local teens. Some neighbors think I'm a bit of a 'gun nut' but I don't care. I bet they will reconsider their carry policy after this.

Dear Neighbors,
On Monday evening, February 17th between 7:00 and 7:45 pm it was reported to the Paulding County Sheriff’s office that 2 men (ages 18-20+) had been soliciting business from homes in Highcrest and sections P & Q off Graves Road and Brisbane Drive. It was reported that around 7:00 pm these 2 men walked into the front door of a resident’s home where the owner confronted them after hearing his dog barking. They took off and that is when the 911 call was made.

Several residents reported being suspicious of 2 young, men who were soliciting business under the premise of fund raising for a sports program and other charities. They were seen being dropped off from and picked up in a white van. These men were described as white males ages 18-20+. They were wearing green windbreaker jackets and carried clipboards asking those who answered their doors for their names, addresses and phone numbers.

I received an update this afternoon, it was discovered that these men were hired by a company called The Weed Man with an office in Roswell, GA. The manager at that location verified that he had sent a group out to solicit business in this area. They hire teens and college age men to solicit for them under the premise of fund raising and then follow-up is done by a salesperson from Weed Man to try to get lawn service contracts with those residents who offered their personal information. These young men are paid based on how many names, addresses and contact information they turn in each day.
The manager was reminded that this is a No Solicitation neighborhood and was told to stay away. The fact that the 2 young men who walked into a resident’s home and were confronted by the husband holding a gun should be enough to keep him and his crew out of our neighborhood.

Please make sure that your doors are locked. More importantly, do not answer your door unless you know who is knocking or you are expecting guests or an appointment with someone. The only way to stop solicitation in the community is for each resident that is bothered by these solicitors to call the company behind it and complain. The streets throughout Bentwater are public streets. If you are bothered by someone soliciting, ask them to leave your property. If they refuse, call the police who can then arrest the person for trespassing if they are still on your property when the police arrive.

Thank you,
XXXXX XXXXXXX, Community Manager

I carry at home all the time. Someone coming in my home uninvited is a very bad idea.

We've got an ordinance in our town that requires any and all solicitors to be register with the police department before going to any homes. They are issued a tag that they are required to display when they come to your home. Failing to do that a phone call to the police department will bring out a patrol car to remove anyone illegally soliciting.

Back in the fall at 930 pm we were sitting in the living room when there was a loud pounding on the front door.I got up and looked out the front window{thought it was the police}and saw nothing.A second boom boom boom on the front door once again.I opened the door with my snub nose 357 pointing and it was two teens selling meat out of there truck. One of the boys ran and the other dropped the case of meat and starting crying not to shoot him.Next time I think they will read the sign at the gate and move on...

Years ago when my wife and I lived in a Duplex, two young Mormons came to my home to preach their ministry. I had told them on two previous occasions that I was not interested.

It was a warm summers evening and I was laying on the couch in the living room with the screen door closed and the main door standing open. My duty weapon was laying on the TV. The young men simply opened the screen door and started to step inside my home uninvited to preach to this sinner the Word.

As I bounded off the couch, grabbing my S&W model 19 4" revolver, I proved to those young men, that I was indeed a vulgar, threating and foul speaking heathen that needed saving. The last time I saw them, they were running for their lives down the street, bibles in hand trying to mount their bicycles as fast as they could go.

One thing is for sure, I proved to them that evening, there in fact was a God, because I didn't shoot either one of them as I had convinced them I was about to.

I always thought it would be fun to sit down with those boys, have a drink and listen to their side of the story.
