Biggest gun fired with no earplugs?

I once shot a 357 wo hearing protection. My ears rang smartly for several hours. If I was to hunt with my S&W 500 and took a quick shot I'm thinking I'd be deaf instantly and permanently.

Last year my buck was taken with my 7mm Mag, and it didn't make any sound that I heard.

I've taken elk and moose with my Win .338 mag and no ear protection. While hunting is the only time you can shoot a gun and not hear it go off of feel any recoil.

300 H&H mag. I wear muffs every time (other than that time). After years of standing next to jet engines, I gotta protect the hearing I've got left.

Hunting with my S&W 629 44 mag. I don't remember the sound because the fire out the barrel and the cylinder was startling, to say the least.

Have you ever heard a 175mm go off about two am in the morning while you are in a combat zone...no wonder I have to wear hearing aids.

Montana,
There's no way of knowing how many rounds of how many calibers that I've shot without hearing protection. Probably many more than most gun enthusiasts shoot in a lifetime WITH hearing protection. Tens of thousands for sure. I was young, I was stupid, I had no wise mentors.

I know you're a thousand miles away, but be really quiet for a second. Hear that? It's the ringing in my ears. I wish I could get along at parties or noisy restaurants, but that ship has long sailed. There's no use crying over spilt milk.

My wife was gripping my Ruger SP101 at the time very low right after I replaced the 38 Special cases with .357 magnum loads. I stopped her and before l could get back behind her and put my headset back on she dropped it and pulled the trigger. That ruined my good ear. I finally found www.centuryhearingaids.com they are so good and so reasonable I bought my first set. Tell him glokrok sent you so he will send me free batteries. I paid hundreds not thousands.

I think many of us have the ever-present ringing and the sound of tree frogs in our ears. Noisy restaurants and parties are no fun, conversationally.
