Accidental Makarov Owner

Of all the pistols I have ever imagined owning, a 1963 East German Makarov is not one of them. I have a close relative whose husband died and needed money and was selling it and there you go. I have to say it is very clean. I had previously put a firing pin to help her sell it. So it may have never been fired. Not sure if that's how they're imported or not. She found it in the bottom of a drawer in the holster with a full mag. BTW it has an importer BILLBOARD on it.

She has the military holster, spare grips and 2 boxes of 9x18s. I'm picking it up Saturday morning and going to the range in the early afternoon. Should be fun.
Here are a couple of photos. I'll try to post more when i get it and take some myself. I've done quite a bit of reading and research, but any input would be welcomed!

That's pretty cool. My uncle had one back in the day and the grips had the Russian star on them. Does yours have the "Ernst Thaelmann" stamp on it anywhere ? That was the factory in Germany that made the East German models.

It does. Here is a photo from the internet that is identical. Do you think they could've printed any more on a gun? I'm thinking SEE ROCK CITY on the reverse.

Well there goes a good part of my AR-15 kitty. Maybe I can find a nostalgic comrade.

Seriously. This is supposed to be the best shooter of the different countries that made them. I'll have some fun shooting & showing it at the range.

I don't know if you saw this during your research, but there's some good info on the Makarov pistol.

I did. I left it up on my computer but forgot to bookmark. You just saved me looking through Google again. That, by far, was the most informative site.

Growing up during the Cold War, it is kinda cool to own a piece of that history. Now maybe for an AK.

I opened up the local Armslist today and saw the same gun that my uncle has.

ARMSLIST - For Sale: Soviet Military Makarov
