AR15 Bump Stocks

The company that sells Bump Stocks here in Texas is shutting down but still has some product. I have been thinking about buying one to have for fun shooting but not knowing what the government is doing, do you think the company has to report their sales? Or will the government request owners to turn them in, a loss if they do. Any ideas or has anyone heard anything?

The AFT issued a ruling for public comment that will end in June. Then the final decision will be made. As it stands now, bump stocks will be defined as a machine gun and fall under the 1968 GCA. Possession and transfer will be banned, period.

Just a wild-ass guess... but I kinda doubt the ATF will be tracking people down from a manufacture's or retailer's list of customers.

The ATF hasn't tried to define a rubber band as machinegun... yet.

Thanks Phil, interesting. Cheaper than the 179.00 stock and donít have to worry about loosing it.

Yeahhhh... this isn't a new "thing." Back like 30+ years ago, I spotted this contraption called a Hellfire Device. It's a little widget you bolt to your trigger guard, and it's like a bump stock. I played a while with it on my AK. It was cool. But then I learned to get the same effect without the device, using just my finger. That was cool, too.

But it got old quick. Really, it's just a way to turn your nice rifle into a bullet hose. It's not good for your gun, ammo is expensive, and the novelty quickly wanes. I'd NEVER use it on a nice rifle--only on a junk gun. But if you think that someday you might want one, you'd best not dilly-dally.

A lot got guys use em on .22s. Not all that expensive... Apps47 has link for 22LR at just under 4 cents. So that 30rd mag dangling under your AR22 cost about $1 to burn through... not exactly a retirement savings breaking event. Besides, how many of us got into guns as means to save money?

Now here's a guy who knows how to burn up rimfire!!

I tried the rubber band trick on my Bushmaster XM-15. Works great. Ironic thing about that is, I got the rubber bands from the Post Office free. Government sanctioned firearm modification?
