10 mm or 460 Rowland

Lately I have been thinking about a camp gun. Something for hiking in the woods while we are camping out. Not a shotgun nor a rifle but a handgun. Since I'm not very good with a double action triggers ( revolvers), I was wanting a semi automatic. I looked into the Clock 20 but then I remembered Chuck saying something about a 460 Rowland conversion kit that he put on his 1911 and I researched that pretty extensively. Ordered one on Monday. It's going to go on my Sig SAUER 5" Nightmare. The Sig has a stainless steel frame so I am pretty confident that it will last quite a while with minimal or no noticeable where on the rails. The 460 Roland is pretty close in Power to the 44 magnum. And about 20 to 30% more powerful than the 10 mm. I think I recall reading a 185 grain bullet traveling at close to 1400 ft./s. The 460 ammo is pretty expensive at about one dollar per round but you can also shoot 45 ACP without making any changes.
I ordered the Authentic 460 Roland kit from 460 Roland.com.
And the kits are just a little over $300. I was told by Dave at Roland that they are changing the threads on the barrels for the compensator that will work with suppressors . He said they haven't done much research with suppressors on the system yet but I think the extra weight would help with muscle flip and recoil. I think that is going to be my next project.

I absolutly love my 460 Rowland on my classic custom. you can't go wrong in my book. shooting the 45 round is more a pain because of the high spring pressure lots and lots of stovepipes.

I was wondering about that myself. Lots of stove pipes is worse than even a single shot. How many of the 460 rounds have you put through the barrel?
Are you using the 20 pound or the 24 pound Springs?

I loved my .460 Rowland Conversion kit so much that I went out and bought a Kimber Two Tone Custom for it. It took a bit to tune the gun but I'm now running the Rowland extended firing pin and a Wolf 18.5 recoil spring. The compensator that comes with the kit works extremely well, even my 12 year old grandsons have no problem shooting it. With 9 rounds of dam near .44 mag power I think it makes a perfect camp gun, the ammo isn't sold in a lot of LGS but I have no problem finding it on line.

This is a stock photo I took a screenshot of a Sig Nightmare with the compensator showing. I opted for the stainless compensator to give it a little something different. Plus my Nightmare has Crimson Trace MS (Rosewood) laser grips on it. When I get the system next week I'll send a real picture.

I don't have an iPhone I have a Samsung my kid gave me. I know how to call someone he programed into the phone..... period. My phone has a 5" screen and I have 75 year old eyes. The smallest I go is my 17" laptop but I'm more comfortable on my desktop with the twin 27" monitors he setup for me. I'm what they call old school stuck in a rut and I like it.
