New Dan Wesson Vigil 9mm
For a long time I have wanted a 9mm 1911 with a 4” barrel simply because I didn’t have one. The Vigil wasn’t even a 1911 I was considering. The two 9s that had my attention were the Kimber Aegis Elite Pro and the Springfield Range Officer Elite Champion. Both can be purchased for around $850 which is were I wanted to be as far as cost. They both have nice features but I never had the opportunity to see either in person which may have changed my decision.
While looking on GB I came across the Dan Wesson Vigil which I have see before but never gave it much thought. I remember reading a review on KT from one of our members and it appeared to be very nice. One day a saw one listed on GB for $999+$35 shipping and it caught my attention. I started price shopping and I made Bud’s an offer for $998 and they excepted the offer. Shipping was free so I jumped on the opportunity.
This in DW’s entry level 1911 and it’s far from an entry level gun. It has zero MIM parts, SS roundtop slide, aluminum frame with a small round butt, SS match grade reversed-crown flush cut barrel 4.25”,tritium front sight, black tactical rear with cocking shoulder, front and rear checkering 25LPI,2-9 rd mags and the DW duty finish.
The fit and finish are excellent, it’s a very tight fit that I’m guessing will need some break in. The trigger is rated between 3.5-5lb and I’m guessing this one is closer to 3.5. I’ll check later.
At first appearance I’m very impressed with this 1911, I don’t think you can find a better equipped 1911 for this price but the true test will be on the range. Hopefully I can get there soon and then I will report back to you.
Here are some pictures.
