Roll Of The Dice

Was in the local LGS past week picking up camp guard.Gentlemen Behind counter which I have dealt with on numerous occasions, says
I have a item for you.At this point my spydey senses are going off.

He returns with a RIA case.Opens up and there is a standard FS tac 45.Open case.Remove weapon from plastic bag which is coated with a half quart of oil.I ask for a rag.Inspect weapon......Ok sights are less then desirable, trigger is at best useable.Items on weapon sharper then my razor.

He hits me with $400........continue to inspect.Thoughts of a winter project of ceracote and rebuild enter my mind.Feel my bill clip in front pocket.Feels GTG.Next words out of my mouth, $400 out the door & a box of ammo.He bit and so did.

Hey, CG.
That big STOP SIGN was a warning to not let the salesman talk you into buying that Philippino Popgun!

:-)

I picked up a Rock when they were first hitting the U.S. market hard with inexpensive 1911's. I bagged it with the intention of working it over, refinishing, and ending up with a sweet pistol. But... the cheap gat actually performed satisfactorily, so I couldn't see completely redoing it. Years passed... I shot it a bit... did a trigger job... had the slide dovetailed... threw on some high-zoot sights.

But then it hit me: I had thrown a ton of money and effort at the gun, it was still a Rock, and it would never be as good as a Kimber... or a Springfield... or <gasp> a Ruger. But there's no question in my mind that the Rock will perform reliably and poke holes in whatever it's pointed at.

Have fun with the new toy, CG.

Rocks are great what I call "Grunt Guns" Cheap, reliable, decent shooting 1911's you can throw in a truck, bug out bag, tractor tool box or quad and beat the hell out of it without guilt. Pretty much the perfect gun.
