OT: Fun with .50 cal BMG

I was looking through some old stuff and found a pic of a practice session with the Browning M2 just before landing in Chu Lai in RVN a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

In the year we were there, our M2's got lit up on a regular basis. Glad I wasn't paying for the ammo!

Feeding my Kimber .45's and 9mm's is painless compared to what that 'other' ammo bill would have been!

Somewhere I have a picture of my dad shooting a mounted .50 cal like that. It was taken by one if his buddies when they were in Viet Nam in 1968. I remember him telling me how cool it was to shoot!

Hey Rick, I was going to post this on another thread but seems appropriate here.
Someone asked about carrying in condition one. We all carried in conditions one even our M-60. Why anyone would carry an unloaded gun is beyond me.

Yeppers, common sense does not necessarily apply to the "military mindset" when it comes to personal protection.

We (most of us) were required to carry in Cond. 3, which of course only a small percentage of guys would adhere to. Anyone who had already been "in the $hit" knew better and carried locked 'n loaded.

But here's another M2 set up in the classic O/U configuration on our Swift Boats in Cam Rhan Bay....a very effective combination.

And of course a pic of a certain 20 yr old salty little dude waiting for his EROS date to return to "the world". There's been a few pounds packed on since then though.

Hard for me to realize this stuff is over FIFTY YEARS old. These photos were held hostage on Photobucket, only recently being made available again (free finally). I've since gone elsewhere for photo hosting.....

Cool pics Rick. I don't have any "in country" photo's. I assume a Swift Boat is the modern WWII PT boat?
I've always had an interest in the old PT type boats.

Nice pics Rick. I quess I just assumed everyone carried C 1. As an MP we all carried that way. We had a clearing barrel just outside of our barracks where we all cleared weapons before entering. We even carried our grenades in Condition 1.

More smiling young pups long ago. Good pics, Wingnut.

After almost getting smoked twice, my C.O. "allowed" me my 1911 .45 to be worn in my tanker's rig so I could watch his back in country. Otherwise, C1 might have been a no-no, but when one's life is on the line, silly regs seem to fall by the wayside.

Welcome home to you and all our other brothers here. I've found a lot more pics from then, but hesitant to post, as this IS a Kimber forum, and to keep this OT, I carry daily in......Condition One!
