Model 10 And Flitz Polish

A few years ago my brother in law said he had a old revolver he wanted to sell cause he wanted to buy a Glock. He said 200 bucks and it was mine, when I saw it was a snub nose Smith I told him it was worth a little more than 200, he didn't care 2 bills was all he needed to have enough to get the Glock.

It had something in a few places on the cylinder. I've been using this Flitz stuff for a couple days, the side plates and barrel cleaned up nice and what ever it is on the cylinder is coming off and getting better. I don't know if it will all come off but I'm still working on it. Going to post a low quality pic from when I bought it.

I also decided it was time for a grip change, tired of the Black/Silver Altamont's. It being a square K frame Smith, not as many stocks to chose from. I did find some on Ebay that I think I will like.

Going to keep polishing until the new stocks arrive then I will post some new hopefully better pics.

That Flitz stuff does a nice job. I even have a strop loaded with it, as a reasonable 3mu progression for knife edges.

and $200 for that pistol is a steal.

@2sharp2, is the grit level written on the package? You're get a nicer finish if you start with a coarse paste, and then work through medium to fine.

Even polishes create "scratch patterns." If you keep polishing with the same grit you might put new scratches over the old.

Also if you have some micro-fiber towels, a piece the size of an envelope will create a better finish, which shows up as black marks on the rag.

Chico, no grit level on tube that I can see, may have been on the cardboard part of the package but that's long gone in the trash. I think it is very fine grit if it has any grit at all.

Nope this stuff is removing marks and scratches, unknown substance that was already on the revolver.

I am using a couple of really old cloth diapers from my stash of diapers that I use to wipe the Mirror Glaze #7 from my hotrod car, got a lot of black spots, working great. I don't need no micro-fiber towel.

@2sharp2, actually, that's a good rendition, and sometimes I do the same thing. I use finer grits to avoid a scratch pattern, at all. Look at a well polished katana. Sharp and functional, but not a ripple in the finish.

I have to use micro-fiber cloths. Never had a kid (to my knowledge) hence, no diapers...LOL

Years ago on this very forum, we had a representative from the manufacturer of Flitz hawking his product. He was going on and on about how you could use it for anything from cleaning your bore, to personal lubricant, to curing cancer.

I suggested in an abrasive manner that it was not always wise to use an abrasive in some of those applications. His response was that according to U.S. Code 69.007.5.56x45, the abrasiveness in Flitz did not rise to the level of "abrasive." His contention was that Flitz could therefore be labeled as non-abrasive.

Ha, Chico having a kid had nothing to do with it. Back in the day (late 70's) there was a cloth diaper service here in town, they would pickup dirty and deliver clean diapers to your house. A Diaper Laundry if you will. So if you went down to the store they would sell you like a 25lb bag of "worn out" diapers, some would be really ragged but most made great waxing, buffing rags. Used to use them on our motorcycles and everything else, now I just use them on the Hemi, Bass Boat, Cuda' and sometimes pistols.

Current pic of progress, I think the place on the cylinder shows in pic. I'm not looking for it to be perfect enough to sell to a paying customer...it's just for me. It did have a whiteish look to it that has been removed. I don't know what cause it.
