Which 308?

Already have a great AR15 but now I want a 308 semi auto.
Seriously considering the Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM 16" with the FDE stock.Attachment 111002
Suggestions or comments?
(The M14 was my EDC 50 years ago)

Have this same one in black. Highly recommend. I like shooting it over my AR10

Cool, the AR10 was an option also as well as the FAL.

Love the M1A Loaded with Stainless Barrel and Walnut stock that I have.

I would not mind getting a M1A Scout with Walnut stock.

I don't know for some reason I feel these rifles need wood stocks. IMO.

AR 10 is good fun but it looks like every other AR.

Brother in law has an FAL. bigger, bulkier and heavy in comparison in my opinion.

I agree with the wood stock except on the SOCOM. Personally it would take away what makes the socom a socom.

Cucamonga,

I'd stick with the AR 10. I think one day again you'll be able to sell it for 3-4 times what you paid. Wait until we get a real liberal POTUS.

I built 15-20 AR's over a 5 year span and I want to tell you that it's really hard to beat a Rockriver, real hard. They are just work horses. Just change the stock to a Magpul you like, I like the UBR or PRS, and call it a day. Armalite, Daniel Defense, Black Rain, etc. are very good but no better than a RRA and a lot more expensive. I would not buy a Colt even if they make the AR10.

RRA uses Wilson barrels, NOT Wilson Combat, but the same Wilson barrels that Cooper Rifles use. And they live up to their accuracy guarantee.

Which 308?

Both are great choices. I had the M1A Socom and now have an LWRC REPR...
Yes, a lil heavy but unless you are carrying it on patrol, no big issues.

If you want to keep the same moa of your 15, then AR10 is the way to go. If you want a fine piece of history that has been proven to well serve, the M1A is the way to go.

My REPR, RPR and M6

M1A Socom, far left.

My vote would be for the more classic design of the Springfield over the AR type rifles. Just personal preference based on looks, I'd guess some of the ARs are capable of shooting better groups? I'll bet the SIG would be fun to shoot. If you're sticking with the shorter barrels I don't suppose MOA is the biggest concern though.
In either case you'll have yourself a legitimate "bear gun" :-) Look forward to the range report.
