S&W Model 10-7

At the party today my brother in law said "do you want to buy this, I am selling some guns so I can buy a Glock or Sig?" When he handed it to me all I did was make sure it was not loaded, put it in my cargo pants pocket and handed him two hundred dollar bills that he was asking for it. Did I do good?
I believe it to be chrome plated, model 10-7, .38 S&W Spl. three screw with a strain screw, 2" barrel. I don't think it is rare or anything but it is a six shot pre lock Smith. It was oiled but pretty dirty, finish seems to be in pretty good shape.

Yep, $200.00 I didn't even blink nor hesitate reaching for my cash stash. I think a LGS would price it around $400 easy. It is not 100% and did not have a box but I could care less about that.
I think you know me well enough to know I would not pass up a Smith pre lock revolver for that amount of chump change.

Brother in law is not really a gun guy so it is pretty dirty but I think mine may clean up almost as good as the one you found on GunsAmerica.
He told me a few weeks ago he had a .38 pistol he wanted to see if I wanted to buy, he was not even certain it was a Smith and I don't remember him saying it was chrome. I thought it was blued, so my plan was sell or trade for profit get something else but now that I have it, I may keep it even tho I have more .38 revolvers than I really need. Oh well.
Unlike some Kimber's with a four letter name, I know this one will go bang. Woops did I say that out loud?

Wink As Info...

Arland, your K-frame Smith and Wesson Model 10-7 .38 Special is nickel plated. Smith has never sold chrome plated guns. Chrome is nowhere near as tough as nickel, it discolors, stains and peels off very easily. However, it is much cheaper to plate with chrome than nickel. You would only find chrome plating on inexpensive low quality guns.

What you have is a high quality, full size six shot (.38 frame, rather than the smaller 5 shot Chief's Special size J-frame. ) revolver with a 2" barrel. Thousands of them were carried as off duty or back up guns by police officers up until the dawning of the age of the "wonder nine" when police departments began switching to semi-autos. It is still one hell of a choice for concealed carry. If carried with the Winchester 158 grain lead semi-wadcutter hollow point load (known as the man stopper), it is a very effective self defense revolver! It's large K-frame makes it easy to control the recoil of heavy loads. In addition, the K-frame Smith has one of the finest triggers of all revolvers. It is a sweet shooter!! Enjoy your new toy!!

BTW, you got a great deal on it. Most M-10's, in fair to good condition go for over $400. I'll give you $300 for it!!!
