Gunbroker... bidding idiots...

Been passively perusing 1911 Subcompact 45's. Don't have one, so I figure I "need" one haha.

Why can't people that are bidding do a little research ahead of time. Was eyeballing a Sig Sauer Ultra Compact Tribal 45. I can pick it up all day long for a little over $700. Yet these folks begin bidding and they're up to just shy of $700 and once you throw in shipping, they're over.

SMH....

Agree.

I'm looking for a new USPSA pistol. I have my eye on the Sig P320 X5. So, I see a used one on GB with the Romeo sight...no reserve, low opening bid. I can buy a new one for around $900 with some luck (I've seen them in the wild).

Anyway, with 12 days on the auction and the bid around $150, I figure I'll thrown in what I'd be willing to pay for a used one (don't really need the Romeo), but I say $575 and change. That held until some a-shats decide to have a bidding war (11 days to go on a gun that should absolutely sell for no more than $750), and it's already at..........$750 -- 11 days to go! I’m amazed how little research bidders do on GB.

"It's less than my LGS" and no tax....but $45 shipping and a 3% cc fee and a transfer fee if they're not FFL.

That's ok. A guy that worked for me came in one day and said he got a new car for $1000 off. I said, "off what?" he said, "sticker which was below MSRP".

I bet the seller is giddy as all get out. Probably LHBO, too.

My take on most auctions is to throw out a low bid to see what auto-bidders are up to. Then I usually wait until the last hour and then go at it if I'm interested.

More times than not I forget about it and never win. lol

People like to win. Even if they over pay, they don't care, they won. If you think GB is funny go to a government auto auction. People way over pay for worn out junk, when they could go get a better car or truck from a used car lot cheaper.... but they won.

late 16th century: from Latin auctio(n- ) ‘increase, auction’, from the verb augere ‘to increase’.

And now you know why!

Im a firm believer they are plants and co- conspirators of some sellers that are there to jack up prices via a frenzy bid war.

——or——- they are just idiots with too much money and living in mommies basement.
