Smith Purchase

Bought this several days ago just arrived this afternoon at my FFL.
Way to heavy for it's caliber (.22lr) should be accurate. I can't really tell it's been fired, cleaned well either way. I didn't have this model.

S&W M617-1 .22lr

Well now Arland....another good score!

You'll really like that one. I'm a Smith collector, and have been using my Smith M617 .22LR 10 shot in the field for years since they first came out. Mine is the 4" model for "handy", and has served me very well. It's accounted for well over 200 prairie dogs and countless ground squirrels. Even a few badgers.

All my .22's seem to thrive on WW Power Point HP's and CCI Mini-Mags FWIW. Good luck with yours, I know it will find a secure place in your safe.....and heart. They're really nice revolvers.

Thanks Rick, I wanted a 4" but couldn't find one I was willing to pay there price for. I have two K-22's, one a old one my Dad gave me and one the new K22 Dad bought for himself. Didn't know it was that heavy or I may have tried harder to find an affordable 4" model.

Congratulations, that is a giant .22 and probably a lot of fun to shoot.

Great find Arland, but shooting a 44 oz 22 cal may be the equivalent of a church mouse fart....hehehe-----

Yeah, I didn't realize it was that heavy or I would have spent a few more bucks for the 4 inch barrel model. But probably not much lighter. But it's not like I'm going to CC it all day long.

Arland, as you know, I've got a bunch of Smith's in the safe, many are full lug revolvers like your new-to-you M617.

You'll find that that extra bit of barrel and that full lug really makes it a true shooting machine. Repeat shots are a given, as that full lug really adds some muzzle weight to steady that sight picture.

My little 4" M617 will drill one ragged hole at 50 yards from a rest with either WW Power Point HP's or CCI Mini-Mag HP's all day. Mine has been a trusty field companion when shooting PD's in MT, WY, and SD, and has accounted for hundreds of the grass rats in the years I've owned her.

A good day in the rat patch a while back in N. CA at a friends ranch doing our rodent elimination thing for him. My trusty little Smith M617 on my hip as usual....

While cruising about SD, I stopped at First Stop Guns in Rapid City, SD and found a nice thumb break, tooled leather OWB rig for it for a paltry ten bucks. Couldn't pass that up.

These revolvers are just sweet companions. You're fortunate to have found one for your own. Good shooting there, Arland!
