OK, I told an untruth.

IMG_2452.JPG
But I didn't mean to. Honest. In my short review of the Remington R1s I bought last week I said I wasn't going to modify it in anyway. However upon closer examination I realize this pistol desperately needs a set of nice-looking grips. Currently it has the traditional walnut checkered double diamond. They're OK but they do nothing for the overall appearance of the gun. I'll bet there are a couple of guys out there with stainless steel 45s that have answered this question for yourselves.
Money is no object. Right Phil?

Anything Helps
God Bless

As nice of those grips look, Iím of the opinion that the ivory grips belong on only the deep blued finish guns.

Previous to seeing those I was of the same opinion but they look awesome. And how well would they go with Marshals white patent leather shoes.

I like quality g-10 grips or other "inert" materials in a contrasting color, like charcoal/dark gray or a deep wood tone. I'm not a fan of wood grips, because I don't like the risk of them hold moisture or bleed from a little lubricant.

I do NOT like having to remove the grips from a pistol ever time I shoot and clean it..

I duknow... it's a personal thing... but I think of an R1 as a shooter grade gun rather than something to dress up. I use rubber grips on my stainless Colt. Gun stays put in the hand. That's my main objective with this gun. I'm more interested in shooting with than shooting pics of. That said, gots to take a pose anyway...

I'm liking these smooth Genuine Ebony (not the Pringle plastic) from Eagle Grips.

Those would be really sharp on a stainless or hard chromed gun.

And they're only about 80 bucks. I can't see spending three to $400 on ivory grips on a $400 gun; after all it's not a barbecue gun but it does need a little dressing up Me Thinks.
So far they're on the top of the list but I'm still open for more suggestions.
Keep em commin.

I surfed around for the best looking realistic pic (not overdone) I could find of a stainless gun with sold black smooth grips. Is this the look you're going for? For solid black grips on a stainless gun I think some type of pattern sets off the look best. Something like Wilson Combat starburst pattern looks pretty good.

The ivory grips in Arland's pic look great but you have to be careful on a stainless gun. For the best look ivory needs something that shares the stage. The bold milling on the Raptor slide and frame do the trick. On a plain jane stainless 1911 ivory grips can look cheap.

My eyes prefer very dark rosewood with a lot of black on a stainless gun similar to the Kimber Micro below. It may not be too far off from what you've already got but it's difficult to tell with that pimp purple background you're using.

All below pics plucked off the Net.
