Old Winchester Inbound

So last week I was browsing GunBroker (a favorite place) mostly checking to see what Mossberg 500's are going for used hoping I didn't over pay at the pawn shop when I came across this old shotgun that (I don't know how to explain it) it spoke to me. Now I've never owned a 20ga shotgun, always been a 12ga guy. The sellers description stated it was from his Dad's Estate.
1923 Winchester Model 12 .20ga. Some may know my Dad passed in 2015 and he was born in 1923. The pics of the 20ga showed great patina, wood stock and forend in good shape considering the shotgun is 96 years old. What will I do with it...I don't know, maybe mostly just give it a good home for awhile maybe someday give it to my grandson and tell him this story and about my father.
I was the opening bidder, $350 seemed reasonable, I expected to be outbid but it held up.
I'll post some pics here when it arrives. Auction ended Saturday after the post office closed so I've not even mailed the money order.

Congratulations, it’s always fun winning a gun bid you don’t expect to win.

Model 12 .20ga Is Here

UPS sucks, it took them 8 days to get the shotgun from Big Cove Tannery PA to Chattanooga. It is here and in one piece.

I checked the serial number again seller said it was made in 1923 but my search says it was manufactured in 1922.

So this Winchester Model 12 20ga is 98 years old, great shape for it's age. It has patina, bore is spotless with a few marks in the stock but looks great to me. It is actually a year older than what Dad would be if he was still with us.

I may shoot it a little but mostly save it for it's history and maybe some day my grandson will enjoy owning it.

It looks great for almost a 100 year old. I think you have to shoot it a little.

That’s a beautiful looking shotgun. I own a Ithica model 37 built in 1947, the year I was born. Looks very similar to yours and I used it extensively for hunting. I agree with JC, you have to shoot it but I wouldn’t put any heavy loads in it though. Congratulations on the score.

Nice score Arland, I'm looking forward to your range report on it.

Thanks guys, I put a little BreakFree on it last night and it smoothed it out. I plan on shooting it some, a trip to Wallyworld will be required cause I don't have any 20ga shells. As you know it's old school, in this case also meaning it only has a 2 3/4" chamber so even 00 buck should not be a problem.

After my test shoot I'm thinking about taking it to my gunsmith for breakdown, inspection, cleaning and lube. Thirty five dollars well spent I think. Ran a patch in bore, clean as a whistle.

On the Ultra that you helped me to buy I took it to my gunsmith first then shot it. He found a broken MSH although I don’t know if he broke it taking it out. Maybe have it safety checked before you fire it. Just a thought.

Your Model 12, 20ga looks very good to be 98 years old.
