New Winchester in the house

I'm always on the lookout for interesting guns, and one I've been jonesing for lately again was to be either a Marlin Octagon .44 Mag, or the Winchester Octagon IF I could ever find one for the right price.

Well, yesterday while at my favorite LGS, I spied this beauty; a Winchester M92 Octagon Rifle (not the carbine), in .44 Mag. It's a Miroku gun (look it up if not familiar) and the workmanship and finish is superlative. One of 500 Limited Edition, but she'll get the snot shot out of her in my hands. No wall-hangers here.

It was in the box, and I also snagged 150 rnds of .44 Mag ammo while I was there:

For a lever gun, she's got decent wood too:

The much-loved logo:

And her pedigree (not that it matters, remember she's gonna be a shooter!):

This will join my Marlin 1894 .44 Mag carbine for my backup elk woods duty gun. Probably won't carry the Winchester though in the dark, wet, steep black timber those big bulls hang out in. This'll be the "sunny day" rifle.

But next time I wander about in the outback here, my Smith M29 Classic 3" bbl will be in my OWB rig, and my new companion caliber rifle will be in my hands looking for targets of opportunity. So Wiley E......are you feeling lucky?

Wow that is gorgeous, and a great find. I am a big fan of lever guns also, and I like the older stuff too.

May I ask how bad the damages were??? Just curious.

Great buy Rick. The wood grain is stunning. Nice to have matching calibers in pistol and rifle. The pests and wildlife population of Oregun should be afraid very very afraid!

I knew it was coming and it's even more awesome than I dreamed it would be.

Well, the rifle had been sitting in the rack for eight months, marked $1,100. I offered them $900 cash for the rifle and the ammo. It came home with me, so mark me 'happy'. It helps to know the owner well, and my grandson works there too, so every lil bit helps.

That’s a keeper Rick. I have a Henry Big Boy in .44mag with octagonal barrel. I know for a fact that they will drop a 150lb sow from 80 yards or 60 yards...one shot! Beautiful furniture on that one. Nice buy!

I shot one coyote with the Henry, early sunrise, two wander into view, one got brave... bad idea.... he went limp before he hit the ground.... about 50 yards.... .44 mag hollow in the neck.

Very nice I love lever guns as well. I have a Browning lever gun in .44mag and a Henry in 45/70. I love them both.

That's a little less than I would have guessed, well done!
