First AK

Got my first AK a couple weeks ago. A WASR-10 for now. Only thing didn't like about it was the blonde color wood. Not conventional to what we are accustom to see.
So I stripped, chestnut red stained and coated it with satin semi-gloss clear urethane. Added a side rail and a TRS red dot. Nothing Fancy. If like the platform, may invest into higher end models. Here are some before and after wood staining. The photos do not do it justice. The wood looks much more even and deeper than pic. Now just need some range time.

That turned out really nice John....

Not being familiar with Jersey's gun laws I would have thought that wouldn't be available to purchase...Glad for your state that it is..

Range report with pics when you get a chance..

NJ still sux. Gun has a welded on muzzle cap because traditional AK flash hider is illegal. Mag is a 30 round Pmag pinned at 15 rounds internally.
Isn't banned because the model AK47 is banned by name. A WASR-10 isn't. Dumb right? So yea, stupid rules in this communist state.

Only have 40 rounds for it so far. Got to order up a case or so of ammo before I hit range.

You can only have a 15 round mag, or is the mag permanently attached?

First AK

No, not perm. 15 or less. It came with a Promag 10 rounder. Midwestpx sells compliant stuff just for shite states like NJ.... 10 rounder is a bit too short and a pain to get in compared to the 30.

I assume it is 7.62-39.

Darker wood looks good/better.

I have thought about buying one of those myself.
