Shot my AR for the first time today.

It's been at my ffl's for 2 weeks. If it would have been a pistol I would have got it first day. One week tho I was at Disney World. Don't know why just don't get excited about rifles. However, things could change.
My granddaughter had her tonsils taken out today so after all was well there I decided I better go pickup my rifle before he charges me storage. I did not have my range bag no ammo and l cannot find my glasses since I bought my new truck 3 weeks ago. Yes I'm making excuses. I let my ffl sell me a padded rifle bag 7 magazines and 100 rnds. Paid his asking price but hey, I like him.
I am shooting open sights with no glasses and using a rest, embarrassed to say. Did I say no glasses? I did have safety glasses. Did I say it was my first time to shoot an AR? hehe Well, the range master (indoor range max 50 yards) said shoot the penciled + sign at 10 yrds first and should hit circled area to make sure it isn't way off, which I did. Then the lower targets at 25 yrds and the higher targets at 50 yrds. Im shooting low but since I don't know what I'm doing I didn't touch the sights. Gonna have to read up on that. It was fun. I have to admit.

You should be low at 25 yards and 50 yards. It should be about 2" low at 25 yards.

The M&P seems like a good affordable rifle. I been thinking of getting another AR.

I don't think I am shooting mine very well but I like it and it is fun.

Mine have all hit the paper just like yours so that is good.

I don't have access to an outdoor range.

AR's are fun and could be handy for when shtf moments. Hopefully that wont ever be a problem. Seems to me I read if you zero a scope at 50 yards it will also be zeroed for 200 yds. I would assume that would be true with iron sights also.

Yes, true. And it will be about an inch high at 100 yards. Zero at 25 yards is zero at 100.

I'm looking at a EOTech Holographic but I hear there is one that is not quite as good but has much longer battery life. I can't afford to go through optics like I do holsters.

If it was me, I'd go with an Aimpoint or Eotech. The battery life on Aimpoints is crazy long. Batteries are easy to change though. My favorite sight is the Leupold CQ/T https://www.leupold.com/tactical/sco...t-riflescopes/

I like the IOR too QR-TS 3x25 30mm Tactical BDC .223 Scope Illuminated CQB reticule

Any of the Aimpoints are great too , like the Micro Military

I also have Eotechs Nikon and some other Aimpoints. The Leupold is easily my favorite.
