Opinions on the NEW Colts?

I have a friend that collects Colts and loves their 1911's. He has ordered both the new (ref. Colt's 2016 Shot Show Intro's) Lightweight Commander and Competition Series in 9mm. He is so excited about these new models that I wanted to see if anybody here has ordered one or both? Given the prices (MSRP $949 and $899 respectively), I am guessing they will sell quickly if they shoot well.

I might consider one if no other reason to put a damper on my friend's constant chatter about the new Colts.

This doesn't answer your question but hopefully will be helpful. Last fall I was the only bidder on GunBroker and for $625.00 won a Colt Commander 9mm, it came with 2 magazines, three dot sights and it has been accurate and free of malfunctions. Not sure what the differences between mine and the models you mentioned are but it looks good feels like a Colt and was cheaper.

My buddy just bought, well put on layaway a new Colt M45. The all FDE with a rail, looked it over, seems to be a solid gun although the color of the grips reminded me of someone's 1970's living room curtains. I'll get some trigger time on it after he picks it up.
I use to own Colt 1911s, three of them. Sold them all in the 90's and early 2000. I'm sure the newer one's are on a par with the other production 1911s, some people have a real infatuation with the prancing pony. Nothing they make really seems to catch my eye, thought about the Wiley Clap commander but hated the stubby safety. As far as the M45, I like the Desert Warrior better with the black small parts as opposed to the all FDE of of the M45.

The older Colts as with any old Colt model, where better than todays. I'm not much for the Series 80 but love the Series 70. Here is my Mk IV Series 70 circa 1978ish that had cerakoted after years of wear.

Obviously NOT a Comiefornia resident. Our "glorious" politicians have limited the gun shops to these Colts for the state:

New Colts!! From what I've been told....Colt has not made a gun in quite some time. There is "no"Colt factory...to make guns!Parts are put together from outside sources & carry the Colt logo.
