Freedom Arms 454 Casull

Going shooting today with a guy and he is going to bring this cannon. O'Boy.

Going to an outdoor range with a 200 yard rifle area. I've 2 big rifles needing sighting, and the Weatherby Mark V in 338 will be my first time shooting it since I bought it over 2 years ago. Finally!

The .454 should be an experience, I can't wait for your range report, can I call you Nate from now on? In book 11 (Cold Wind) Nate moves up to the .500 Wyoming Express.

For everybody else MR and I are reading a series of books written by C. J. Box about a Wyoming game warden Joe Picket. If you're a reader and like outdoor mysteries I highly recommend it but suggest you begin with book one and read them in order.

.500 Wyoming Express, great another handgun to think about. The 44 is going to have to keep me satisfied for a good long time.

His Casual and his 223 Contender are both scoped. It will be my first shooting of a scoped pistol.

I shoot a TC in .357 Herrett, I've taken many Mule deer and Antelope with it my longest shot being 185 yards.

That's a .44 mag next to the .357 Herrett round.

...you may want to keep that scope on the .454 a really good distance from your face. It'll be hard to make salami and ride the XR with only one eye :-)

Hand gun scopes are designed with extended eye relief to be used at arms length.

And one is a no magnification red dot scope, so no eye relief issues.

I've only ever held a Freedom Arm pistol, but they are one very fine pieces of work. Now a 454, that would just be fun no matter the manufacturer.

Well I handled and fired the Freedom Arms revolver. Unfortunately the guy exchanged cylinders for the day and loaded it up with 45 long colt. A nice solidly built pistol. He did have a box of 454 ammo and at the muzzle it says 1900 fps. That's about 50% more then a 44Mag. Too much, so my curiosity about the brand has been sated, and the cartridge I can skip. 44Mag is plenty.

Shooting a .45 long colt out of a Freedom Arms model 83 had to be like shooting a Kimber .45 with a .22 conversion kit on it.
