Attention - Password and Security Update

Hey all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

Change it now, or wait until they give the signal?

Right on, Helena.

I've seen one vBulletin forum that was brought to its knees and eventually disbanded after it was hacked and the administrator failed to act aggressively to eliminate the threat.

If you tell me that a couple accounts might have become compromised, I believe you. I'll change my password right away.

Thank you for keeping KimberTalk up and running.

Hey everyone,

Just so everyone is aware. The system will force change your password, and you will be required to log in and change it. Once in, it will give you a new criteria for your passwords to make them more secure.

You can change it now, but you will be required to change it again once you receive the email.

I hope this clears this up.

Thanks,
- JB

This is happening on at least two other forums that I am a member. Hate hackers doing this.

I had trouble making the necessary changes.

I have Windows 7 and have the "bundling service" of our local cable company. I even called Chuck because initially the e-mail never arrived, then I got one that wouldn't copy (or I wasn't adept enough to copy it), then I requested a "reminder" password to my second "spam trap" e-mail address.

I had trouble picking a new password, so I thought what hacker could guess Chuck's nickname from his high school gym class.

I know it sounds funny, but who's going to guess "mushy-tushie."
